The gun-control agenda that President Obama unveiled with urgency on Wednesday now faces an uncertain fate in a bitterly divided Congress, where Republican opposition hardened and centrist Democrats remained noncommittal after a month of feverish public debate.
By pursuing an expansive overhaul of the nations gun laws, Obama is wagering that public opinion has evolved enough after a string of mass shootings to force passage of politically contentious measures that Congress has long stymied.
Yet there was no indication on Wednesday that the mood on Capitol Hill has changed much. Within hours of Obamas formal policy rollout at the White House, Republicans who had previously said they were open to a discussion about gun violence condemned his agenda as violating the Second Amendments right to bear arms.
Im confident there will be bipartisan opposition to his proposal, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said in a statement.
The Senate plans to begin taking up Obamas proposals next week, with the House waiting to see what the Democrat-controlled Senate passes first, congressional aides said. The Senate is likely to take a piecemeal approach, eventually holding up-or-down votes on the individual elements of Obamas plan rather than trying to muscle through a single comprehensive bill, aides said.
Obama, in an emotional White House ceremony, outlined four major legislative proposals aimed at curbing what he called the epidemic of gun violence in this country: universal background checks for all gun buyers, a crackdown on gun trafficking, a ban on military-style assault weapons and a ban on ammunition magazines holding more...

Reid is concerned about the potential political impact on fellow Democrats representing rural or conservative states, and he believes gun control could become a significant issue for at least 10 of the 23 Democratic Senate seats up for grabs in 2014, aides said...

Fixed it.
Let’s hope the GOP is already making election ads against the democrat scum. The only good that could possibly come out of this BS gun control crap.
All of them are DOA the second they hit the House ....and a few are zombies that have already been dealt with ...
The American public better brace themselves. We’re about to be thrown under the bus AGAIN. The ‘Republicans’ will ultimately cave on this, as they always do.
If he can’t get our guns, he’s going after ammo.
Anybody tried to buy any ammo lately?

If Boner caves on gun control , there will be an uprising against the Republican party , and will be the impetus for a third party rising .
Justifyably so !
I dont trust Boehner with my ‘Constitutional Rights’
As a matter of fact , I don’t trust anyone with my ‘Constitutional Rights’ because they aren’t within governments power to remove them
Other laws that were “uncertain”:
Obamacare
Dodd-Frank Reform Act
Dream Act
To hope the GOP does the right thing,...is a very bad plan.
Here in Pennsylvania, we have a state-level House, Senate and Governor who are Republican. One of our state reps, Congressman Darryl Metcalfe, has posted the following which I found on FR a few days ago:
MEMORANDUM

From:
Representative Daryl Metcalfe
To:
All House members
Subject:
Right to Bear Arms Protection Act
I am currently having legislation drafted that is similar to firearm legislation recently introduced in Wyoming. My legislation would prohibit the enforcement of any new federal restriction, prohibition or registration requirement for firearms, magazines, and ammunition. My legislation would also require the state to intercede on behalf of Pennsylvania citizens against any federal attempt to register, ban or restrict the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products.
I hope you will join me in defending the Second Amendment in Pennsylvania.

I just got off the phone with the NRA-ILA grassroots division and informed them of this development, and asked them to contact all the NRA membership in Pa and urge them to ask their reps to co-sponsor this bill.
Thanks to RedinBluePa for initially posting this on FR
They’re going to come up with something that “infringes”.
Why do you assume that? Both the "Fiscal Cliff" deal and the Hurricane Sandy bailout bill were passed with a minority of the Republicans voting in favor with solid Democrat support. If this bill comes up for a vote, it will pass.
Expect massive voter fraud in the 2014 mid-term elections - these commies are patient and will do anything to take back the House of Representatives.
That's the kind of sensible change we need.
12 ga doesn’t seem to be missing from the shelves.
actually got 100 rounds of .40 S&W at Walmart today.
They even had a few boxes of 9MM but the rest were 270, 30-06, and 22-250
If we remain vigilant and keep up the pressure on Congress, we will stop them cold. However, the gun-phobes and statists will never stop working towards eroding the 2nd Amendment, so we can never let our guard down again. This fight will go on for years, even decades.
This will be how the leftists lose the Senate.
I only “do” handguns. I check all the Walmarts in my area—and no one had any.....
