'automatic' and 'semi-automatic' are often used by experts interchangeably." -- Bob Garfield I am a range safety officer and a federal firearms instructor for the US air marshals. I will not speak to why you made said assumptions or what motives you have in doing so, But I can tell you that 'Automatic' and 'semi-automatic' are in no way interchangeable.

For leftists, words mean whatever they want them to mean and if they want them to mean something else tomorrow, that’s permissible too.

A few weeks back I caught Geraldo Rivera carefully crafting a false image and transforming an “assault rifle” into a full auto machine gun.
He said something along the lines of “With a handgun you can only shoot a few times and then you need to stop and reload. With these automatic killing machines you spray, slap a new clip in and spray some more.”

I don’t own assault rifles but I do own a couple of MSR’s (Modern Sporting Rifles).

This is the true disgrace of the media at large.
The thing is that they are destroying their own credibility with each passing day.
They’ll never admit that to themselves because they are too busy pushing an agenda.

Handguns are also interchangeable with phasers.
My smartphone is a tri-corder, and my car is a shuttle craft.

"The Language of the Third Reich" by Victor Klemperer is about how the nazis manipulated the language as a means of manipulating society.
We see the same today in America where words like "Militia" used to conjure images of honor, duty, and patriotism, now are used to label right wingers as dangerous violent criminals.

I used to use an “MSR .22” for squirrel hunting. It held 16 rounds.

Two nights in a row Diane Sawyer had video of a full auto AK47 while talking about assault weapons. Unintentional? Not likely.
Last night she was railing about the ‘high powered’ AR.
She doesn’t know the .223 is at to low end of hunting rounds? Maybe.

I own lot’s of military assault rifles, the oldest one is an 1859 3-band Enfield. The mass carnage it wraught at places like Antietem and Gettysburg was unbelievable.
Interestingly, all of those “assault rifles” were also “defensive weapons”. The Swiss never attacked anyone, so their select-fire rifles are obviously not assault weapons.
Trying to define some weapons as “offensive” and others as “defensive” is stupid, as it is a matter of intent, not design. Even mace and stun guns are used offensively when that is the intent. In fact, a woman is probably more easily zapped and tossed into a trunk, than threatened into doing so with a gun.

You mean they still had some left????? I thought they ran out long ago.
Seriously....when ANY national news talking head comes ON, the TV goes OFF. Liars, every one. I can barely still stomach the local news (mostly for the weather forecast).

In that case, the restrictions of the NFA on ownership of automatic firearms should be lifted.

If the terms are to be dictated by ones own agenda, it should be a given that we always correct the dis-constitutionalists that We are speaking of DEFENSE weapons.

Seeing as how a semi-auto fires a single round per trigger pull, “semi-auto” and “single shot” can also be used interchangeably.

Interesting factoid.
Victor Klemperer was the cousin of Werner Klemperer who played Colonel Klink on Hogan’s Heroes.
