A spokesman for ANA said the landing was made after an alarm indicated a problem with batteries used in the plane. An official at Takamatsu airport said smoke was detected, but had no further details.

The plane landed at 8:47 a.m. and the 129 passengers were evacuated safely using the plane's emergency slides. The plane had a crew of 8.

This is really sad. America once set the standard for aircraft design, reliability and safety. Fifty years of decadence and educational decline seem be taking its toll. We live in sad times.

Quip aside, I'm sure Boeing will sort things out.

Not sure about this one, but all the others that had problems were assembled in WA, not SC. WA is union, SC is not.

"If it's Boeing, it ain't going."

Haha...reminds me of some oldies:

"If you really don't care..fly US Air"

"If you got all Day...fly TWA"

..and my favorite, the flight attendant's nickname for Denver International Airport (DIA) "DamnNear in Abilene".

This is almost one serious incident per day. Batteries, cracked cockpit windshield, fuel leaks....
Is this union sabotage for moving to SC, use of too many overseas parts, or really bad design?

I recall the emphasis on International Team..

The 787 International team

and IIRC some related problems in the various stages of development.

“America once set the standard for aircraft design, reliability and safety. “

Bet you could find the same stories on most other former new aircraft when they were a new design.
