Sadly, the media and the Democrats have manipulated the details on this tragedy so much that there is plenty to be skeptical about. First we were told by CNN:

“Three weapons were recovered from the school: a semi-automatic .223 Bushmaster found in a car in the school parking lot, and a Glock and a Sig Sauer found with Lanza’s body, a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation said. The weapons were legally purchased by Lanza’s mother, the official said.”

Then it turns out that the weapon found in the trunk was a shotgun. Two weeks later we are told that most of the victims were shot with a Bushmaster AR-15 and not hand guns as originally reported. This is just one example of the conflicting stories coming out of this horrible disaster. Some of the other coverage has been much further out on the fringe. This is the story that the gun grabbers hope will give them the momentum they need to push the constitution aside.

It doesn’t suprise me at all that the story has been badly manipulated and that some who have been following it have become skeptical of the coverage.

The media usually get the story wrong, report events incorrectly, etc. If you’ve ever been a part of a story reported on the news, then you’ll know firsthand the reporting is normally shoddy. They often get names wrong, weapon types wrong, suspects wrong, victims wrong, etc. It usually takes weeks or months for the media to get the story straight. Eventually though, the correct details are typically available if you are willing to do a little research. The fact that the media reports and stories are often wrong does not mean there is a conspiracy afoot.

There is no question in my mind the media and the left would like to use this to push through gun control legislation. We have no disagreement there. We are seeing that in action. But that doesn’t mean they made it happen, or created the event, or some other weird conspiracy. Plenty of bad stuff happens anyway, nefarious plots are not necessary to explain awful events and tragedies.

What I don’t agree with is the hints and suggestions from the conspiracy crowd that this is some kind of false flag event, that it didn’t really happen, that government agents perpetrated it, that there are mystery shooters, that some kid was brainwashed by the CIA to do this so Obama could seize our guns, etc. That’s just silly stuff, and we need to be sure that kind of nonsense is not associated with conservatives. We’ll never win elections anywhere if the public associates conspiracy theorists with conservatism.
