The very best way, the most effective way to expand and maintain your voting base is to make people dependent. That’s and the handouts are about.

With the numerous (often duplicated), generous and ever increasing benefits for the disadvantaged and under served in this country, with 30 + years of affirmative action, with the wall to wall monitoring and perpetual 'needs assessments' that are in place for the ‘poor’, there is NO grinding poverty in America... just the kind that is voluntarily chosen by surly losers and other perennial bust out’s.

The ‘poor’ in America live better and with less stress than I do and I work for a living. I don't have the latest electronic gadgets, I don't have a VCR, a BIG SCREEN TV, a new car, trips to Disneyland, credit cards up the ying yang, free groceries, free health care, free school, loan preference at the bank, favored status in hiring....etc.

Where the f*&^ does this wholesale national hysteria about the ‘poor’ end?

Started to make a joke about Ben's taling of the poor and then creating Poor Richard's Almanac. Decided to take a look at the wisdom in the Almanac instead and, with all the discussions taking place, one struck me as appropos: Well done is better than well said.

Ben continues to give good guidance...
