CNET, one of the Internet's first and most influential authorities on gadgets and tech news, watched its editorial integrity spiral out of control Monday, with staffers quitting and editors left to explain themselves in the wake of explosive new charges over its annual Consumer Electronics Show awards a scandal, it would appear, that goes all the way to the top of its corporate umbrella, and could shake the entire ecosystem of online tech journalism.

CNET “sometimes” I use for reviews on new and FREE apps or software I never heard of. They come in handy..
It’s not their reviews I read..it’s the other regular buyers or posters who make reviews of feedback on an item.

For general sci/tech news nothing better than the good old Register, your tech news and reviews delivered with a sarcastic flare, just the way I like it.

For more serious reviews I always go to Tom's hardware, been following his site for years from when he first started doing reviews and talking hardware, now of course he is quite big and has an army of reviewers and testers etc to do the write ups. They can get quite technical, which is great if you like that sort of thing :)

Lastly for gadget news, reviews etc I just peruse Engadget who pretty much grab all the cool stories from around the world that you would be interested in. Of course they are owned by AOL now so take it with a pinch of salt, but gives you info on things you can research further on your own.

This is not to say there are no other sites which would be just as good, these are just the ones I have used for years, if anyone else has good ones please share :)

I also use
ars technica. Owned by Conde-Nast, and I think it's pretty good.

“Floppies never were 10 megabytes.
They were 1.44 meg.”
Excuse me, but I happen to recall asking, “What would I ever write that could possibly fill a 256K disc?”

I agree. What was that around 1993/4?
To: G Larry
But you could buy a hole puncher you could make it a 2.88 meg disk. So if you punch a 2nd hole you would get a 5.76 meg and the last hole would give you a 11.53 meg. But like 64k is really 65536 it was rounded down to 10 meg.
To: G Larry
That was Bill Gates and the quote was something like, “640k is enough memory for everyone.”
To: Dan(9698)
They were 1.44 meg.The were also 360KB, 720KB, and 1.2MB...

Remember how long it used to take to fill up a 10 mega bite floppy
and a floppy used to actually be floppy? Well, Well..

To: Dan(9698)
You are so correct, floppies were 1.44 meg, at least the later advanced ones. But those were the hard plastic case ones, right? I'm thinking of the larger and floppy floppies. What were they, 500k. I thinking the ones that worked with the IBM 486.
These ones...

You are giving away your age:)Hey, I remember when a phone modem was placing the phone hand set into two rubber boots.
Come to think of it, I remember when I saw push button dialing vs actual dial dialing.
I am happy to report I am not old enough to remember why they call it "turning" on the lights.

That was ME, and the quote was with regard to the 256K disc!
I said it to a couple co-workers.

Comments on tech sites, populated predominately by political liberals, are: "If you can't trust CNET, then you can't trust CBS."
Conservatives should strike now. We have always known that CBS can't be trusted. We should now connect the dots for politically low-information techies.
For example: tech reviewers in the WSJ.

Well, spill the beans. Where are the good sites then?I think that Anandtech is the head and shoulders above them all, if you don't ask for a review of every product in existence and are willing to dig. They start each review with a great high-level description of the state of technology relevant to the product, followed by an intensely detailed and exhaustive review. Their reviews are roughly daily, so they don't touch on that many products. For that, you will need to venture into the comments, which I have found to be level-headed and well-informed. The site does not attract those seeking instant gratification and a forum for bloviating.
