I have one, and it is a very nice product. The environment is simply different. Unless the iphone4 is failing, there is no widespread need to upgrade for most consumers. The 4 is fine. Also, the competition has improved greatly. I chose iPhone over Samsung galaxy III, but it was a close call. I wanted to stability and more reliable battery life, which was a struggle i had previously had as an android user.

A year or so ago, I was in Verizon a day after a major phone release. There was no crowd or rush. The days of long lines is mostly over for these releases, as each phone is only an incremental change from others. The customer base has matured in the mobile space.

I agree. I have an IPHONE 4 and will not upgrade until absolutely necessary. I could care less about that voice thingee. Probably will upgrade at about IPhone 10. lol.
