An event designed to help assist Michigan families with housing expenses turned into a chaotic scene after there was a mad rush to collect Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers.
The incident happened Saturday morning at the Wayne County Family Health Services Center on Eureka Road, between Beech Daly and Inkster roads in Taylor — where thousands of people were waiting to get housing vouchers, many who had been waiting outside in the cold since the night before.
Reports say the amount of people who showed up looking for assistance heavily outweighed the number of vouchers to be distributed. As the night was fading away and the sun started to shine, the crowd continued to grow as more and more people arrived. According to reports, only 1,000 vouchers were available for distribution. An estimated 3,000 to 4,000 people were in attendance.

I’m not without sympathy for people who have so many problems keeping their heads above water that they feel they must seek government handouts; however, the entitlement mentality (the constant “gimme”) just makes me want to puke.

It warmed up in many parts of Michigan late last week. The snow on the ground was pretty much melted off with the sun and temps a little north of 50 degrees F. I’m at my other residence in northern lower Michigan at the present time. A week ago the snowmobiling was great on the snow cover. Today, there is just a brush of snow, and very hard going for the sleds.
Must be that man made global warming you all heard about huh?
Following this riot, they were all planning to go down to Hard Core Pawn on 8 mile and hurl invective and threats at Les Gold and the rest of the staff. No word on whether Governor Gran...er, uh, Snyder plans to kiss their collective asses or not.
...Pretty much a small-scale version of how the welfare state always ends.
I saw that movie on netflix, I thought it was very good. It’s dark and dreary, but a good reflection on what society has become, and what one pissed off ex-british marine can do heh.
I think it has been unseasonably warm up there lately.
I’d love to see a full crowd shot.
