Gabriella Hoffmans paycheck is a little lighter today, thanks to a payroll tax increase that is forcing millions of Americans to make the kind of tough budget cuts their representatives in Washington lawmakers seem unwilling to tackle.
Hoffman, a 21-year-old Virginian who works at a nonprofit, estimates her paycheck will be roughly $30 less this biweekly pay period, or about $780 annually, thanks to the end of a two-year cut on payroll taxes, which fund Social Security. The tax has risen back up to 6.2 percent from 4.2 percent, costing someone making $50,000 annually about $1,000 per year and a household with two high-paid workers up to $4,500.
As a newly-graduated person, someone coming straight out of college, I dont like the idea of having less money coming to me due to the selfish interests of people in Congress who dont have any interest in reducing our financial problems, Hoffman told FoxNews.com. This is an impediment for future economic growth. Its going to make it harder for young people like myself to get married, find a better job, you name it.
Hoffman admits the hike wont completely alter her spending, but the University of California-San Diego graduate said she will definitely have it in mind when it comes to leisure activities and entertainment.
Although its a small quantity on a monthly basis, just having less money going into my paycheck will prevent me from doing things and force me to be more frugal, she said. Ill be more cautious with my spending.

savviness.
Conservatives knew what would come from the lying occupier, and I am sorry for conservatives.
But for the hussane voters out there:
You’ve been punked by your half-baked messiah—suck it up commies.
:)
Those idiots voted for the bamboozlement. We all get to work harder for less while the ‘rich Bam’ and complicit Dems/RINO’s get raises from us taxpayers. Idiot voters did it to themselves and us included.
My paycheck takes a hit to fund their utter incompetence.
Let them feel their pain they caused us all.
Hey, that was my paycheck you wrote that note on. Tell the boss I want a raise or I quit and go on assistance
Obama’s fault... It’s the second term - even the effing New York Times has quit blaming Bush...
Yeah, right, I don’t think if you quit you go on assistance. It was a $10.00 an hour kid who worked 8.5 hours.
It’s been a while since my husband was in business and we had to make payroll every week, but the corporation would match the FICA and Medicare tax and pay that to the government. I’m assuming that they will now be paying an increase (or maybe they have been held to the higher rate all along and just the employee was given a break).
Hopefully someone who is a small businessman will clarify this.
If the corporations have been paying the smaller rate this will affect their bottom line, new hiring, raises, etc.
The dems are busy overthrowing the govt and all people notice is that they’re getting a few dollars less.
“”Government do take a bite, don’t she?”
Employers paid the existing rate. Skin came off the employee.
That’s right. That’s me. And about those hours, 8.5 is not enough. I’m entitled. At least my teacher said I am. I need a raise and more hours and health care and you need to tell the boss to pay me more than I earn for him.
Hey Obama voters how’s the hope and changy thing working for you????
To all pin-headed,asshat, moonbat, moronic, uninformed, degenerate, loser nobama voters: BwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. And I have a feeling that you “ain’t seen nothing yet”.
