The way negotiations work is you must meet people halfway. That’s why they’re putting up so many bills. They will eventually get some of the other side to say, “well, at least this one isn’t as bad as the others were.” It’s the tough politician who can keep to his agenda and continue to say no, no, no bill after bill. Also, the politicians trade votes. You vote for the bridge named after me and I’ll vote for the gun-clip ban bill. But we’ll change it from limiting to 10 shots to limiting to 11 so I can claim to have ameliorated the effects of your bill. (Everybody wins. Except the prols, that is.)
