Who said it was necessary? They have to fill time with something, especially during a blowout, and he was only reacting to what the director put in front of him. It’s not as if he went on about gun control.
This is coming from someone who mutes the tv so he doesn’t have to listen to the ex-jock blockheads who know about their narrow field but can’t talk, or the broadcaster types who can talk but sound endlessly condescending and don’t know anything.
It was the way he said it. He could have just said she was beautiful and moved on.
