I had heard about another book that has also turned out to be an unexpected surprise so far: My Descent into Death by Howard Storm.
It's the first near death experience book I've read and I've found quite a bit to think about and practical advice to test and follow in it.
I didn't get much church or formal religion growing up and both of these books/authors have helped transform what had been sort of theoretical for me into something real and verifiable. Challenging and comforting at the same time, both have offered me another perspective from which to view and understand these unfolding events of our time, as well as some of the challenges in my personal life.
Apparently, all the help we need is just waiting for us to ask for it...and still we turn away. How did we get so stubborn?
Sadly it goes back to the taking out of prayer in the schools.
