If the election had been held 6 months in either direction, the outcome would have been different. If he had picked Christie as VP -- the outcome might have been the same, but the debate with Biden sure would have been more interesting! Christie's bluster might work well in 2016 if Susana Martinez or Nikki Haley is in the #1 spot on the Republican ticket. (That's assuming that Christie's health holds out for another 4 years.) I don't see him ever being elected President, although I have no doubt that he sees himself in the job.
