My wife has the M&P .40 cal compact - great home defense weapon - plus the multiple magazines that I purchased to go along with it...
I carried a .40 cal S&W 4006 when I was in L.E...
After multiple tours in Iraq using both the 92F and Glock in 9mm....
I came home and purchased a .40 cal S&W 410 SS and a Springfield 1911 .45cal...I carry the 1911 all the time...great weapon...
One must take into consideration that there is several hundred million .40 rounds out there in somebody elses warehouses as well.
Among these, how would the Kimber compare?
was going to do a diatribe against glocks. I don’t like them, but if you are comfortable with one go for it.
as far as caliber...depends how much weight and bulk you can carry. When I was young, I use to tote a Ruger Redhawk .44 mag on my belt all day while hunting...did not even know it was there....
now when I conceal carry, I feel weighed down by my tiny (but steel)Colt Mustang .380. My son bought himself a Ruger lightweight LCP the same caliber and it is practically weightless. now they have a similar piece in 9mm...the LC9...more power...I have fired both, and if you like DAO guns, these are hard to beat.
good luck with whatever you do...and watch out for the Gun Grabbers! it is open season on The Constitution!
Lock and Load
MOLON LABE!
There’s no such thing as “knock down power”.
Most of us are not snipers and a 9mm chambered carbine (the extended barrel adds about 300fps) could be the most efficacious home defense system for Joe paycheck to paycheck Six-pac in the current race to prepare for the coming totalitarian tyranny of the Marxist Obama.
I'm not a fan of CC weapons with no external safety features, nor am I a great fan of the .40 cal round. I'd go with either a compact .45 (which is what I do, most of the time), or a 9mm - a smaller round, to be sure, but compensated for by higher muzzle velocity and extra magazine capacity (up to 16+1 in the Springfield XD). The 9mm gets a bad rap in my opinion. It's perfectly serviceable for self-defense, using good-quality JHP's. Shot placement is everything, of course; that's why we train and practice.
Kahr .40.
I don’t get...”and it shoots any kind of factory-loaded ammo you want to put through it”. I can literally put any kind of bullet into this gun?
I’m new to all of this and have been looking for a handgun that can stop an intruder and be fired by my 15 year old daughter without loss of control. Any suggestions?
A full size 1911 in .45 is not at all hard to carry all day for the average size person in the right holster.
As in Goldilocks and the Three Bears: The 22 is a bit large; the 27 is a bit small; the 23 is just right!
Here’s a no BS article from a no BS sort of guy who has actually used a gun to defend his life and end others:

Oh, and putting my money and my life where my mouth is I daily carry a .40 caliber Glock G23 with Gold Dot 165 JHPs in it.
I have the mod 22 .40 Glock and like it a lot.
I’ll pass on this glass of Glock cool-aid, thank you very much.
I used to believe that was true.
However, several reports over several years of suspects carted off to the hospital after 3,5,7, or 9 hits from a 9mm changed my opinion. If someone is threatening me I don't want a round that sends them to the hospital, I want a round that sends them to the morgue.
I’ll keep my G19. Critical Duty +p is just as effective as a .40 using anything else.
