There is no provision in Federal law for LEO's to personally own post-86 MGs.

It may be issued to them by their department, and they may be able to keep it at home, but title for the weapon would be held by the Dept.

I don't see it happening myself particularly if it is set up the right way.

Make it appear as if a militant group, be it on the right or left, has teamed up with a foreign govt or foreign terrorist to wage war against the US govt, and the military will indeed follow orders not only to disarm American citizens but also use as much force as necessary to do it.

Look at the terrorist attacks and you will see a pattern to this effect.

The one that is the easiest to recognize is the terrorist attack planned for NYC in 2010, the fertilizer car bomb.

Prior to the attempted attack the news media ran one story after another about how violent the TEA Party was and how they were a bunch of Tim McVeigh wannabees>

Following the attempted attack the left claimed the fact that it was a fertilizer bomb proved it was the TEA Party.

Every attack since 1993 has followed the same pattern.

It's straight from the Weather Underground playbook.

If the left is in power they use this as a way of gaining more power.

If the left is out of power they use this as a way to make the claim the govt is becoming a dictatorship.

Interesting. So they have use of the weapons-including recreational use-as long as they are on the force. When they leave they must turn them in.

Seem dodgy. And I guarantee that isn't happening in all cases.

You are describing morons

They are hard-core Ron Paul Libertarians.

And while I think they would probably not want to assist any gun confiscation efforts, if it were presented to them as cracking down on racist, homophobic, extreme right-wing Christian conservatives, in a militia or Klan-type group, I could see them doing it happily.

And for everyone of those you can trot out I can produce three that owns several firearms themselves, a gas guzzling pick-up, does not consume porn, and believes the biggest threat to liberty is their CiC and the apathy of the American tv viewer who doesn’t know anything that is not on TMZ, CNN, or Leno. Then again the only military guys I know are combat MOS’ed, old fashioned, hard working, testosterone packing patriots and that is by design. I choose my company.

I have two sons in the Corps (legacies who have 3 combat tours in Helmand Afghanistan, Semper Fi) who tell me about the pulse of their comrades and live close to the largest Army base in the US and talk with military people and families frequently.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Do LE agencies ever have their firearms audited by outsiders like ATF?

-- Sadly, this is the opinion of a lot of senior military, probably more the rule than the exception. I have my theories as to why that is the case ... --

People rise to those position via some sort of "internal political" process, and at that level, there is a tendency for the club members to share the quality of being elitists. It's a condition for advancement.

Same holds true for judges and most elected politicians. They are elitists, and a majority of them would disarm the public, if they could.

Anyone bet this retired general POS doesn’t own a gun or two?

BTW, did he ever vanquish an enemy until they agreed to an unconditional surrender? Didn’t think so. And yet, wouldn’t he agree that the military should do exactly that to the citizenry if they refuse to give up their arms?

No brass left with brass, IMO. Politicians, all.

I have no doubt that's true.

Personally, I'm not expecting the military to be on my side in any domestic conflict.

If it turns out they are, well great.

I think the reason the 5.56mm AR is so popular with farmers and ranchers for varmint control is that it's much easier to carry and shoot than a 7.62mm and more effective than the .22LR. It has been a matter of debate since the AR15 was introduced in Vietnam if the 5.56 NATO round is even powerful enough.

.223 has over twice the muzzle energy of a .45, which is described as a very effective man stopper. The problem is the use of full-metal-jacket bullets in high-twist-rate barrels. They just go in one side, out the other, and don't dump that much of their energy into creating a big wound.

The original Stoner model WAS "devastating". It used a "1 in 14 twist" barrel, whose rifling would just barely stabilize the bullet in flight. When it hit, the bullet would tumble and create a big wound channel.

Hollow-points and blended-metal (fragmenting) .223 bullets WILL produce "devastating" damage.

This jackass serves as a reminder that not all of the military is “on our side” ... should push come to shove with enforcing a gun ban, this oath-breaking traitor would obviously be on the wrong side.

Weren't there reports from Afghanistan that the M4 platform was not powerful enough. The ballistics are different between a Remington .223 and a SS109 and shame on McCrystal for disseminating false information.

That's what I heard as well. They were doing a significant amount of fighting at ranges there the 7.62x51 did a much better job (and even larger sniper rounds of course, but that's another whole kettle of fish).

You can’t buy the M4 or M16, because of the unconstitutional and mis-named "Firearms Owners Protection Act" of 1986.

once an officer gets past the rank of LTC, possibly once he gets past the rank of Captain, he is more a politician than a soldier.

No kidding. As a senior NCO I dealt with plenty of O4 - O6 in the military that weren't worth jack.

Yeh I can totally understand that he would not want to have to face that weapon whilst terrorizing the American public into submission in the name of Global govt.

I expect them to be neutered by order nullification and the fact Nobama is gutting them. I also expect some “friendly sabotage” when the time comes. Watch how much ammo walks off bases if things really go south.

I see the feds taking the lead until they see they are flat outnumbered and taking casualties they will arrogantly deny. State and local LEO will be too busy protecting their own and the ones that do stay at work will be busy chasing looters and protecting elected officials and landmark structures. State Guard units will be decimated by the members that stay home unless a foreign force is introduced.

I don't know the answer to that, but usually government only audits government when they hare forced to, i.e. when somebody gets caught red-handed.

Autos can go walkabout from the armed services, too, and I KNOW that they only audit themselves when heat is applied from above.
