He had been to the range before. Earplugs are just part of the preparation for shooting. Habits are hard to break.

As for reloading before your magazines run dry, that is taught in every shooting school in the world, and is a part of the more realistic FPS games.

“If you aren’t shooting, you’re moving. If you aren’t moving, you’re reloading.” Its not really that big of a mystery.

Put a couple of tracers in first before filling the magazine.

Yes, could be.

Or this was his approach to correcting a misfire. Putting in a new mag if he had a problem. It's not the correct procedure, but he might not have been taught basic sports or any other measures for misfires.

That, and he had different mags full of different types of rounds and simply wanted to see the difference in shooting. The classic ballistic gelatin observation, but with humans.

Hi Bryan, thanks for your post. I recently heard that the full expression is: “If you aren’t shooting, you are moving! If you are not moving, you are re-loading! If you aren’t reloading, you are DEAD!!!!”

I agree, every shooting school I’ve been to stresses the necessity for tactical re-loads during lulls. I would be interested in where the non-depleted mags were found. In his pockets/vest, or on the ground?
