How can this be? In the progressive/regressive liberal mind, government is god.
While the gov’t and gun grabbers (the chattering class) are screaming for more gun control, the public at large is out buying guns in the biggest buying frenzey we’ve ever seen. Over 16 million additional guns have been added in the last 4 years. Seems to be a real disconnect here.
The liberal mentality, although promoted by an obnoxious and vocal crowd, remains a minority amongst the broader population. Any attempt by the liberals in power to shove gun control down the throats of the American public would turn out the masses that the Republican party has not been able to inspire to the voting booths. This would bring about a revolution, and we would win this battle - hands down.
Why I don’t doubt Obama’s desire to grab our gun, I think a lot of this bluster is Obama’s desire to distract the public from his lousy economy.
I think that there’s a certain segment of the left that is so absorbed with “instant gratification” that they thought Øbongo would simply wave his hand and it would be the law of the land.
Perhaps it is because the last time gun control was on a roll in the 1990s it ran smack dab into 19 moslem hijackers armed with boxcutters.
Suddenly all those people against guns realized they just might need one after all.
I would rephrase the question. Is it that the public does not trust the government, or that the public is actually afraid of their government, and is unwilling to support even more power grabs by it?
October 13, 2010 - (Gallup) 59% percent of American voters say government has too much power. 8% too little power. They also noted that from 2003 to 2010, the number who believed government had too little power only varied from 6% to 8%.
July 16, 2012 - About 66% of American voters say government has too much power in the United States, according to a Rasmussen Poll released Monday. (Only 8% believe the government is too small.)
The clear trend is *not* a lack of trust in government. Fear is the issue. About two-thirds of Americans are afraid of their government, because it has too much power.
How can you trust someone obsessed with gaining more and more power over your life?
Hopefully some of these panic buyers are also voters...
Zero does go forward with gun control. One hell of a fight ensues. Spurred on by an overwhelming ground swell of outrage, the Republicans suddenly find their spines and their ‘attachments’, and stop zero in his tracks.
Spurred by this victory, they go forward with real budget cuts, and engage and defeat zero on on other issues as well.
Well, I did say fantasies didn't I?
Maybe Obamalamadingdong will gain public trust in his third or fourth term.
I think the media is backing off because they were stirring up pro-RKBA forces.
By keeping quiet while the states and dozens of Federal agencies plus Congress lay their plans without their every move being watched and their phones ringing all day.
instead of the 2 .5 million home invasions it is 10 million home invasions per year in America. compare that to the less than 100 killed in mass shootings per year. the media uses the fluke, the statistically nonexistent to make it seem like it happens all the time . what happens is burglaries, rapes(many not with guns), assaults by the hundreds of thousands per year each
instead of 400,000 women raped per year it is million
s
instead of hundreds of thousands of children, raped ,murdered and tortured per year it is millions.
compare that to the non-existant less than 100 killed mass shootings
40,000 Americans die in car accidents etc
but the main reasons democrats want to take away our gun rights is to empower government, make us slaves of the government, take away our individual rights and so that we can't defend against a tyrannical government.
Trust us, well protect you, isnt a very persuasive case to make to the tens of millions of Americans who have guns in their homes. And directing fury at gun owners for their lack of trust isnt likely to increase their faith in government.
Trust communists and congenital liars? Suuuuure, I will!
“One plausible explanation is a lack of trust in the people who would be doing the regulating.”
Sorry, but someone who even hints this might be possible fundamentally fails to understand the purpose of the Second Amendment nor the relationship between the citizen and the federal government.
The Second is not to be traded for assurances that our overlord will respect our liberties after we give up the means to overthrow them. They made that mistake in Cambodia, and the Worker’s Paradise, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and the Jews did not fare very well under National Socialism if I recall correctly.
(I had the honor of knowing a Jew who had escaped from a concentration camp in southern Germany and spent the remainder of the war in Switzerland. He was kind enough to show me the prisoner number tattoo on his arm. I know the spirit that put them there. That same spirit is in some of the people in power today.)
It’s about control. We support control of our own destiny. Those who take that away are an enemy that must be stopped. Fired at a minimum.
Oh no! They are not wasting a crisis are they?
Professor Carter hits it out of the park. If the government in Sandy Hook which responded admirably, was unable to stop the drug-addled Lanza kid because they were four minutes away. Why should we think that the government in Washington could protect us when they are eight hours away from Sandy Hook?
One small step for an American; one giant step for the mind chained...
0bama's people will try it, though, they can't help themselves, moths to a flame. They're hoping if they can get something in place by hook or by crook quickly that the media have until 2014 to make people forget. What they will face is not a million people in the streets, nor a fusillade of lead for the enforcers, although I'd be glad to be wrong there. What they will face is widespread civil disobedience. Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God.
