Without checking, I think the $13 trillion excludes Treasuries held by the U.S. Government in the “Social Security trust fund”. If they look at it that way, then the U.S. government’s Social Security obligations are 100% unfunded. They can’t have it both ways.

There is no trust fund.

I’ve seen a debt clock like that before. Is there more than one, or did they pull the image from the past? Is there a service that makes debt clock graphics for people, and do they whip up whatever figures are quoted to them? Are there multiple quasi-official debt numbers, like there are unemployment percentages? Do the 13trillion guys get in scuffles with the 16trillion guys when they pass eachother in the halls?

This is all so absurd.
