Barack Obama’s $7 million Hawaii vacation is an insult to America’s struggling middle class
The Telegraph ^ | 01/06/2013 | Nile Gardiner

$16.4 trillion – that’s the latest figure for America’s massive national debt. Nearly $6 trillion of this debt was racked up in the first term of the Obama presidency – a 50 percent increase. It is horrifying to imagine what the debt will be when Obama leaves the White House in 2016, unless Congress has the willpower to stand in the way.

Meanwhile, as the world’s superpower is literally drowning in debt, President Obama is basking in the warmth of the beaches of Hawaii, at an exclusive resort way beyond the financial reach of most Americans. The president pays the cost of his own family’s accommodations, but there are a large number of associated costs which are paid from the public purse.

What is the actual cost of Obama’s lavish vacation to the American taxpayer? A staggering $7 million, according to veteran White House reporter Keith Koffler, who wrote in his blog earlier this week:

In a move that is rich in irony, President Obama agreed Tuesday night to sign an emergency deficit reduction bill that does almost nothing to rein in spending and then jetted out to Hawaii to resume his vacation at an extra cost of more than $3 million to taxpayers.

The price tag is in addition to more than $4 million that is already being spent on the Obamas’ Hawaii idyll, bringing the total cost of the excursion to well over $7 million.

The added cost was incurred because by the time the Obamas return from Hawaii – whenever that is – the president will have used Air Force One to travel to Honolulu and back twice.

That would require giving money to a private enterprise, and the touchstone of the Democrats is “Heaven forbid somebody might make a buck!”

He is an insult any way you look at it.

A menace and a dictator, too.

Oh, I could go on and on and on...

"Remember how the press howled about Bush vacationing at his ranch in Texas? Other than the cost of flying Air Force One and a minimal security detail to protect the isolated ranch, the taxpayers weren’t out the cost of an Obama date night in New York city. Bush at his own expense even fixed quarters at the ranch for the Secret Service agents. The Obama’s live like Louis and Marie Antoinette while the peasants cannot afford bread.:

The press was mad at Bush for taking a vacation at Crawford because he wasn't going to a ritzy place they would be able to go to and "cover". They wanted the Hamptons, etc.

Also, Crawford and all of Texas can't be hot as all get out and the press couldn't handle the heat and humidity.

At the same time they couldn't handle the heat, Bush was working outside doing....manual work - gasp...in clearings at the ranch.

He saw no problem in sweating. The press was not happy.

"I’ll bet Danny Glover wants to keep his privileged life and mega salary."

Won't Danny Glover and the rest of his high-rolling Hollywood peeps be in the 1% that have to pay the progressively higher taxes?

I don't know how, but they will get around it. Maybe like the french guy, Glover and the other will take themselves and their mega money to another country.

"I don’t think that a robo-signature is legal."

I've read on FR that it is legal and that it is not legal.

I can see in my mind's eye that if this goes south, Obama can say something like 'I didn't sign that bill' kinda like 'You didn't build that..."

He can say someone else authorized the AutoPen. He had no knowledge of what was going on behind his back. After all, he was on a much-needed vacation and trusted his aides to tell him what was in it. But, of course they didn't so its not his fault.

RE: LE MISERABLE is a foretelling of what is ahead for America. Everyone should see it and be reminded that this is how an Obama revolution could end.

You are expecting this to happen in our cities?

Probably live off a dividend salary. Have a company that pays for their home, travel, etc. Just like Buffet.
