To: The Cajun

I’m on the exact same page as you. I can find plenty of other places to visit or shop other than malls. I generally avoid cities, large fireworks displays, street concerts, any activity that includes large numbers of people, especially feral youth are likely to gather.

I stress situational awareness to my daughter, her friends and to my friends. Little things, like backing into a parking space, small, concealable pocketbooks, choosing restaurant and other seating with a view of the exits, train platform safety, etc. It may save someone someday.

It's sad having to always think like that, didn't have to just 15-20 years ago, but times are different and a lot worse.
I won't let my wife go to the mall in a town 25 miles away unless I'm with her.
Two or three mall cops can't cover the whole thing and there is just too many *trash* floating around looking for any opportunity.
Stores are having a tough time and its' been on the downhill skid several years.
