Why wouldn’t Obama think he can implement any kind of gun restrictions, controls or registrations he wants to?
He has consistently ignored the US Constitution, the separation of powers and our laws and no one has been able to do a thing about it.
The democrats in the senate protect him, the media protects him and the US courts all the way up to the Supreme Court protect him.
In November 2012 the majority of people proved once again that instead of voting for their own freedom or the welfare and health of the nation they would rather vote for free stuff and vote to make themselves feel good about voting for a black.
Obama will do what he wants and the majorities will support him, the media will support him and the courts will support him.
The left's useful idiots in the public aren't my main concern.
Executive orders would be over the top.
It would have to be legislation passed the old fashioned bipsartisan “imperfect deal” way.

Plans have already been made in many areas of this great Country to make it so costly for the gun grabbers, e.g. burn their houses before they burn an American firearm owners, harassing the gun grabbers an their families with gun fire every time they leave their homes, etc. that it will soon become very clear, Americans are not going to surrender their firearms under any circumstance!
I would like to believe it will unfold the way you indicate, which is indeed the normal way for important law-making to take place in the USA.

The Senate will have a bill to ban assault weapons per Diane Feinstein.
It seems an effort is also underway to co-opt gun vendors, similar to the way the AMA and AARP was hoodwinked with ObamaCare.

Funny you should mention that, but all of the proposed gun control laws, so far proposed, call for CONFISCATION and registration of the guns not confiscated.
You must understand that the people proposing this — Obama and Jarrett are buddies of Bill Ayers and his radical Marxists. As a member of the Weather Underground terrorist group, Ayers and 25 members debated how to efficiently kill 25 million Americans [roughly 10% of the country's population at the time].
