The guy is extremely lucky.

He'll get well and be a menace again...he probably has no education and no prospect of a job...ever.

Society would have benefited from his death. A non-productive parasite.

What do mean no prospect of a job? Looks like he has a great future as a target. He’s just not a very good burglar or driver.
