This produces a burst of infrared radiation that can fool weather satellites into thinking the ground near the fault is warming up, even when ground-based weather stations say it isn't.

I would be willing to bet not all of the burst is in just the infrared spectrum.
The reports of earthquake lights, ball lightening type phenomena, etc that you hear about every now and then.
Plus, some animals, can see nearly into the infrared spectrum, more so than we can.

I agree and I agree with gipper that it could be the source for some of the booming noises being reported around the world. Also maybe throwing off the sats vis-à-vis GW.

Thinking this through, has led me to a few other conclusions that have been bugging me all day... lol

I'll try to share them later, when I've had enough time to think it through more thoroughly - has to do with my "Errant Core Theory." LOL... Pun intended! ;)
