Princeton, New Jersey (CNN) -- Somewhere in Texas, former President George W. Bush is smiling.
Although some Democrats are pleased that taxes will now go up on the wealthiest Americans, the recent deal to avert the fiscal cliff entrenches, rather than dismantles, one of Bush's signature legacies -- income tax cuts. Ninety-nine percent of American households were protected from tax increases, aside from the expiration of the reduced rate for the payroll tax.
In the final deal, Congress and President Barack Obama agreed to preserve most of the Bush tax cuts, including exemptions on the estate tax.
When Bush started his term in 2001, many of his critics dismissed him as a lightweight, the son of a former president who won office as result of his family's political fortune and a controversial decision by the Supreme Court on the 2000 election.

That's correct. As a matter of fact, I think I should get ALL the money I have ever paid into Social Security back.
I will sign a legal contract that I will never take any Social Security money at any point in my life if I can just have it all back. I won't even take any interest on the money.
This is a great irony for sure.

Sounds like a good deal but the pols wont like it one bit because it will kill their slush fund if even a small minority of Americans scrape up enough brain cells to agree with you.
The reduction of your witholding was ridiculous to begin with, considering Soc Security is going broke. It was a political feel-good move by Ostinko and obviously was never going to remain in place for the long term. It served its purpose to help get Barky reelected.
BTW, your employer OTOH, never had his share of your witholdings reduced. Your employer has paid the full measure of your witholdings, paycheck after paycheck, all the while you enjoyed your reduction.

Ok. So, the government withholds more. That’s going to save social security? No way. Our official debt is $16 Trillion and unfunded liabilities are considerably more than that. All they are doing is moving money around and printing fiat money. All the accounting tricks in the world are not going to save social security — even if you accept the premise that the Federal government should be doing that anyhow.
To make our government solvent is going to require something that most people are not willing to accept -real cuts in Federal spending and government policies which encourage business investment. There is nothing in this fiscal agreement nor in the President’s ideological leanings that will fix our long-term problems.
So, they can withhold more from our paychecks to keep up the facade that social security will be preserved, but they will only delay its demise for a short while. We need to transition away from these large government programs and towards self-sufficiency. However, everything I see is moving in the exact opposite direction.
W was the worst. Examples? John Roberts, Medicare Part D, No Child Left Behind, Operation Together Forward II, nation building, CFR, Harriet Miers, ect ect ect. How soon the bots forget.
easy, you will now feel better because more of your hard earned money will be used to BAIL OUT WALL STREET and BANKERS, thereby saving the economy temporarily from their Lies, Fraud and Theft.
The withholding feature was a typcial democrat issue LOST on the messaged of republicans - that money was ROBBED from Social Security - but not one darn republican said a word about this raid on social security. The old people should have been crazed to know that Pelosi, Reid and Obambi did this to SS without the help of conservatives.
You’re correct of course.
The whole thing is a joke. Just eliminate SS withholding completely and let Bernanke and Geithner make it appear electronically.
