On New Year's Eve, Chris Matthews got off one last sneering shot against conservatives. In a special 2012 retrospective, the Hardball anchor connected fiscal conservatism to segregation. After guest Howard Fineman insisted that Mitt Romney's aversion to tax increases during the primary doomed him in the general election, Matthews snorted, "It's today's politics! It's like, they used to say, you have to be the most segregationist guy in the south." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]
He continued, "You can never be an inch away from it because somebody would always go to your right on that issue." Go to the "right?" Perhaps the history-challenged Matthews is unaware that segregationionist south was run by Democrats.
The liberal host used the pre-taped special, which aired on Monday, to rehash the political events of 2012. In his closing commentary, Matthews, perhaps speaking for his network, insisted that "we look forward to a new year, a new second administration of a significantly progressive president."
He declared, "America isn't a hard right country, intolerant and resentful of its new countrymen and women."
A transcript of the exchange can be found below:

[On Romney stressing the importance of spending cuts over tax increases during the GOP primaries.]
HOWARD FINEMAN: It was also, in the long term, the beginning of the end for Mitt Romney.
MICHAEL STEELE: Yes.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: How so?
FINEMAN: Well, because, he began to lock himself into a position of Grover Norquist-ing himself for the whole election and that played into who he was as a businessman. That played into the 47 percent.
MATTHEWS: It's today's politics! It's like, they used to say, you have to be the most segregationist guy in the south. You can never be an inch away from it because somebody would always go to your right on that issue.
FINEMAN: I guess you could say that whatever an early primary season crowd claps for furiously, as happened in that video, is going to kill you on October 15th in Ohio. That's exactly what happens.

MATTHEWS: And so, we look forward to a new year, a new second administration of a significantly progressive president. America isn't a hard right country, intolerant and resentful of its new countrymen and women. It is, on balance, a centrist country with progressive leanings one that has now rejected reversions to the policies he holds responsible for the country's current difficulties. It likes its president. It roots for his success and believes strongly that America will win again because of its deep resilience. We can change. We are changing.
Matthews is a radical homosexual. He is that guy, in that gayboi parade, looking to show off for school children. The guy who wears a leopard mask and a Gstring, and balances a 5 foot head dress (made up of pineapples and pink feathers)- while someone in black chaps and a Jason mask walks him on a dog leash.
What else can we say about him? Seriously? What else is there to know about this guy?
Yet they still consider it unfair when they are correctly called Socialists and Commie sympathizers.
SCREW HIM.
The MOST evil piece of crap!

Sounds like the same old 19th century claptrap to me.
I don’t think the Democrats have ever stopped being racists, just perfected their lying about it.
Even before the word “socialism” was coined, Jacksonian Democrats were famed for their violence and bitter hatred of other races and religions, and people who were successful. Even then they demanded government largess, and sought power to oppress others. Jackson himself carried out an extensive ethnic cleansing of the southern Indian tribes, internal deportation to West of the Mississippi River.
When the country was being divided by slavery, a big defender of slavery was George Fitzhugh, whose proto-socialist writings are some of the clearest descriptions of their outlook on life and things.
His book Cannibals All!, or Slaves Without Masters (1857), was not just a *defense* of black slavery, but said that 9 out of 10 people in the world should be slaves, ruled over by the 1 in 10 who were elite and superior to them.
By elite and superior, he essentially meant the “elitism and superiority” that Democrats, before and after, have imagined themselves to have.
After the fall of slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, etc., the Democrats went searching for any other people they could feel superior to, who they would offer to “uplift”, but in truth, strongly work to “keep down”.
The tried it with the Indian tribes, but most had a long cultural memory of the Democrat’s treachery and violence, so generally gave them the bum’s rush.
Democrat-leftist-liberals hearts went pitter-patter when the laughably incompetent anthropologist Margaret Mead went to Samoa, and not realizing that Samoans have a highly developed sense of humor, believed and published tales of Samoan sexual debauchery. From the left’s point of view, such tales were what they wanted to hear, and the way people would live if they could just be persuaded to give up on civilization, and live as slave-peasants under the watchful gaze of the elite and superior Democrats.
The twists and turns down the dark and menacing alley that is the monster that leftists propagate, are no longer philosophical doctrines except around the periphery, but are instead generated spontaneously over and over again, by those who share in their failings and have attraction to socialism. They no longer need to read to grasp what they want.
But it is today no different than it has ever been.
