Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will postpone filibuster reform until later this month, giving him time to negotiate a deal with Republicans, say Democratic lawmakers and aides.
A group of liberal Democrats had been pushing Reid to trigger the so-called "nuclear option" on Thursday, the first day of the 113th Congress, to make it more difficult for the minority to stall legislation and nominees.
A senior Democratic aide said Reid will instead recess the chamber at the end of Thursdays proceedings to extend the legislative day until later this month.
This would preserve his ability to amend the Senates filibuster rules on the first legislative day of the 113th Congress, even if that reform would not come until late January.

i.e. extortion
Which means he doesn’t have the votes no matter what he says, if he really had his 51 he would have rammed it through today. It seems their might actually be a few democrats smart enough or forward looking enough to realize this might come back and bite them someday...
He needs to convince his buddy McConnell that it’s really a good thing. Then the others will follow like so many mice.
He also has a weaker caucus. Brown, Snowe and Lugar would have gone along with his schemes. Fischer, Flake and Cruz will not (well, maybe, look what happened to Johnson).
Johnson (and Ryan) may have been bought off by the milk-related pork for WI in the ‘cliff deal’.
Delaying this until after the State of the Union.
The Dems ARE going to do this no matter what! Reid and Obama just want to be able to say the Obstructionist Republicans are not working with them. The ‘Rats know full well that even if SOMEHOW the GOP wins back the Senate they will cave after the First media story. The spineless Republicans will give them everything they want and allow them to Fillibuster ALL their bills.
Certainly. Just a few of us sheeple have figured this out. They are one big group owned by the elites. Quit feeding the beast, quit voting & giving them some legitimacy, make fun of them instead of acting mad. Don't let them rent space in your minds.
From Reid’s POV there’s no downside. They can cram thru a bunch of new welfare spending programs and they’ll have that 51% voting Democrat till Judgment Day.
“Delaying this until after the State of the Union.”
#1 reason!
He’s also trying to grind concessions out of McConnell in the meanwhile.
Sheeeeesh, Harry, why delay? The repubs will go along with whatever you want like the good little boys they are. Once you’’ve taken care of that silly filibuster thing the Republicans don’t even need to show up for work anymore-—which I’m beginning to think is their number one goal.

Sorry about the double post. Trying to get used to my new tablet.
He has the votes. He is prolonging the torture of the Repuboican party and he is savoring it.
Not your fault. FR software fault. I post from a PC and get double, even triple posts.
Oh, so it is now “Filibuster Reform”?
