Its no secret that Speaker of the House John Boehner is currently unpopular with the more conservative elements of his Republican Party. As the new House voted for Speaker, several Republican congressmen made their negative feelings official, casting ballots for anyone but Boehner.
While other disgruntled GOPers either held their noses and voted for Boehner, or abstained entirely, several other Republicans cast protest votes in favor of Reps. Justin Amash (R-MI), Eric Cantor (R-MD), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Raul Labrador (R-ID), former U.S Comptroller General David Walker, and the recently ousted and controversial Rep. Allen West (R-FL).
Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) cast the protest vote for comptroller Walker, prompting a collective Huh? among social media users.
Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) and Rep. Gohmert cast the two votes for West, who lost his re-election bid to Democrat Patrick Murphy.
