Donald Kaul: American ‘exceptionalism’ an outright myth

We are the greatest country on Earth. If you don’t believe it, just ask us.
American “exceptionalism” - the declaration of which produces that warm feeling of knowing there’s nobody as good as you are - is a growth industry these days, particularly in the right wing’s workshops.
OK. I’m as willing to go along with a joke as the next guy. Before I accept a claim of greatness, however, I’d like to see a little proof.
How are we the greatest country on earth?
Anyone that has to ask that question is an idiot.
