SILVER SPRING, Md., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- A Maryland 6-year-old was suspended from school for forming the shape of a gun with his hands and saying "pow," a lawyer for his family said.
Robin Ficker said a boy, a student at Roscoe R. Nix Elementary School in Silver Spring, was given a one-day suspension from school with a conference planned for when students returned from winter break for the pretend shooting a week after 20 children and six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., The (Springfield, Va.) Washington Examiner reported Wednesday.
"What they're doing is looking at the worst possible interpretation of a young, naive 6-year-old," Ficker said. "This is a little child who can't form the intent to do anything like that."
Assistant Principal Renee Garraway sent a letter to the boy's parents saying the child had been warned.
"Your son ... was involved in a serious incident," Garraway wrote. "(He) threatened to shoot a student. He was spoken to earlier today about a similar incident."
Ficker said the school has not told the parents what the "similar incident" entailed.
"It just shows the overreaction," the lawyer said.
He said the school should have discussed the issue with the parents before handing down the suspension.
"They could have called the mother in. They didn't do that. They just said, 'You're suspended,'" he said. "Five years from now, when someone in to Montgomery County looks at his permanent record, they're going to see that he threatened to shoot another student."

Well, Ma'am, your son's assistant principal makes the average rock look pretty intelligent. Are you sure you want to keep sending him there instead of to a legitimate school for an education?
How long before Texas Tech will stop using the “Guns Up” hand signal.
We have 14 little boys on our cul-de-sac between the ages of 6 and 11. All of them got paintguns for Christmas. Yesterday they were racing up and down the street on their bikes shooting at each other. Made a horrible mess but they had an awesome time. Fortunately didn’t hit any cars or houses with the paint, which washes off with water. Their aim isn’t too precise but it was getting better by the end of their play time.
Sounds good and the idea has entrepreneur possibilities. Maybe give the photo with each T-shirt so the kiddies see it’s the real deal. ;-)
But what if you need your fingers for Math? It’s better than drawing a picture of a box with balls in it like my first grade grandaughter. She knew all the answers, but didn’t have all the balls right so she had to stay in for recess.
“Americans have become so weak and so mind numbingly stupid that when the enemy comes for them, and it matters not which enemy, they are not going to survive.”
Trying to think of a word...Thought forming....I have it!
“GOOD!!!”
That’s the word. I do not want this level of idiot breeding if we want humanity to survive. And if that means 10 of us left, so be it. That 10 will have a chance.
these actually are not serious incidents. but somehow gun free zones keeps everyone safer.
two great reasons never to allow libtards to define anything about gun policies, they have no clue what is actually dangerous and what is not.
“Americans have become so weak and so mind numbingly stupid that when the enemy comes for them, and it matters not which enemy, they are not going to survive....”
For sure...You said it “mind numbingly stupid” and they are providing the education “for the children”.....I mean it’s like an old saturday night live skit from the 70’s and yet it is happening before our eyes.....I fear where my country is headed....I need more food, more ammo and most importantly an even closer walk with Christ.....
being a boy gets you suspended nowadays.
The terrorists and crazies have won... and we all lose.
Reminds me of my youth days before WWII. WE played many hours of cowboys-and-indians and cops-and-robers. We made rubber ‘bullets’ from slices of old inner tubes. WE even used our six shooter cap guns to claim our scores. I even remember pulling up some kind of tall growing weed to make spears and play bushman. We didn’t think much about playing the hunt and seek games and our parents or cops never punished us for such playing. Maybe that was why my generation was able to win WWII. I grant that society has changed so much from my youthful days of the depression days that such playing around today would only be mental seed for the depraved idiots of today. One thing we did not have was a desire to actually kill someone. Of course in those days we knew that there were killers in society who didn’t mind doing this.
Here’s an idea for a new show on TruTV, World’s Dumbest School Administrators
Yeah, talk about high capacity magazine. That kid has two hands. With the finger gun, he’s got ten rounds!
We shouldn’t get used to this type of nanny statism. This bitch should be shamed.
Isn’t the “pull muh finger” thing an automatic? :oP
Sixth grade upon arrival at home from school many a kid in the hood would take down their rifle from the unsecured gun rack, take it outside and load it, then engage in unsupervised hunting activities. It was that or riding bicycles without helmets.
The biggest abuse came in my early teen years. My dad had this notion that like in the days of his early teens camping out on a lake or river in the summer alone was the good life. Oh & he left me unsupervised with a semi automatic rifle with a 18 round capacity, a boat and outboard motor, and left me there to fix my own meals and take care of myself.
He would check on me sometimes daily to bring ice and food etc. But I was left without any modern communication devices to summon government assistance.
This was the United States of my early teenage years in the early 1970's. My dad was able to let me experience things his dad and uncles allowed him and his brother to experience.
Now schools go into lock down when a 6 year old makes a finger gun? My male teachers and principals owned firearms and hunted and fished. They expected boys to be boys which helped turn boys into men later in life. The current education system is neutering males or making them Queers. Worse of all these tyrants are making them compliant and conditioned not to question authority when authority violates conscience and common sense.
Thanks Dad for showing me what our nations was like before The Bastards destroyed it.
I have to agree, Norm.
Good.
I have no love for the people I described. None.
Nature will see to it that their way will be short lived.
