While Democrats frantically try to block Scott Brown from going back to the U.S. Senate, there are also increasing fears he could pose an even bigger threat as the next Massachusetts governor.
Republicans close to the departing U.S. senator said hes itching to go back to Washington to replace John Kerry, but Democrats are buzzing more about a potential Brown gubernatorial campaign in 2014. It may be tempting for Brown to run in a special election against a vulnerable Rep. Edward J. Markey, but he should reject the easy play and go for the job that really matters running the state of Massachusetts.
In the last week, there has been more speculation (about a Brown gubernatorial campaign), one top Democratic strategist said. Hed have a much better shot at (governor).
Brown could beat Markey, but its interesting that he has had little to say about the Malden Democrat since Markey announced his intentions to run for Senate. That could mean Brown is still undecided, according to some Democrats.
Brown knows Democrats will throw millions of dollars against him and use the same strategy they used last year for U.S. Sen.-elect Elizabeth Warren, trying to tie him to national Republicans. Its a winnable race for Brown but by no means an easy one, and a second Senate loss in six months would essentially end his once-promising political career.
It would be much more devastating to Democrats if a Republican such as Brown were to take over the Corner Office, and thats what has party leaders most concerned.
And Browns prospects of getting elected governor look to be much brighter than in another Senate race later this year. By 2014, Democrats also will be seriously weakened by a series of scandals and screwups under Gov. Deval Patrick, with several Democratic top lawmakers tainted or even on trial in the Probation Department patronage affair.
Brown would be a perfect choice to clean up Beacon Hill and get Democrats and Republicans to actually work together much the way former Gov. William Weld and even former Gov. Mitt Romney did.
Brown confidants say they still expect him to announce his Senate campaign once Kerry is confirmed.
If he chooses to run again for U.S. Senate, and I think he will, he will be a formidable candidate, said state Rep. Dan Winslow (R-Norfolk), a close Brown friend.
But if you were Scott Brown, who would you rather run against, Ed Markey and the entire Democratic Party, or state Treasurer Steve Grossman or Attorney General Martha Coakley?
Thats the question Brown has to answer in the next few weeks.
Conservatives share almost the exact same concern over Brown.
It’s Massataxus. You take what you can get...
RINO, Dhimmicrat.
Same, Same
Give me a break.
Scott is a Republicrat with all the untrustability, sleaze, and ability to lie that comes with being a liberal.
Any stated worry about the RINOman is a typical dim-bulb-crat lie.
The Republican party is officially dead.
Hey, you can have him!
The Dems hated Brown because he was a far right Rethuglican.
Remember the ads they ran in 2010?
“Who is Scott Brown, really? A Republican. Who will vote in lockstep with the Republican party. At times like these,
we can’t afford to have a Republican...like Scott Brown.”
Yeah, I hated that guy. Always voted GOP. So I’m glad
we elected that woman, Liz Warren. A much better choice.
(/sarcasm)
Dems are not afraid of anything right now. I don’t expect that to change anytime soon.
maybe...
to paraphrase an old Dead Kennedys song (the Brown they
referred to was Jerry)
I am governor Scotty Brown
My aura smiles and never frowns
Soon I will be President...
Massachusetts Uber Alles, Massachusetts Uber Alles...

In MA he’s a non moonbat. He is too far to the Right of
the typical MA Democrat
some past positions
>Leader in reforming the state’s sex offender laws.
>Implement the death penalty in Massachusetts
>Leader on addressing waste, fraud, and abuse
>Massachusetts system good; ObamaCare no good
>DREAM Act provides “back door amnesty”
>AdWatch: I agree with JFK that cutting taxes creates jobs.
>Opposed two-way bilingual programs; supported English-only.
>Tighten our borders; no blanket amnesty.
Quite a few left leaning positions, but see above...
I can’t picture a MA Dem. saying any of that

He lost to a fake Indian who talks like an Okie.
So why should we believe he is a shoo-in for either of
these races?
Obama isn’t on the ballot in ‘14. Lot of Obama voters
clicked for Warren too.
all: HC list ping
bullshit alert.
I am tired of having to alert people that MASS GOV don’t matter. SEN does matter.
seriously and this affects FReepers how?
we have no dog in that fight
we have no dog in that fight. Seriously, conservatives should waste a penny or minute on RINO’s like that
don’t matter?
Look what Romney did to us.
I think conservatives and FReepers shouldn’t waste a second of time or a penny of their money electing backstabber Republicrats into office
Why would anyone believe that Scott would have more success in running for Governor than he did in his race for reelection against Warren? What am I missing?
This is from a liberal local reporter... of course ‘rats want Scott nowhere near the Senate where he does them more damage. Whatever our thoughts are on SB, he is a big kink in ‘Rats ability to keep Hairy Reed (sicK!) from maintaining his Sinate majority. The article is nothing more than an attempt at reverse psychology.
