For President Obama, the fiscal deal passed by Congress on Tuesday finally ends four years of debate with Republicans about raising tax rates on the wealthy. But it seemed to reopen a debate within his party about the nature of his leadership and his skills as a negotiator.
While Mr. Obama got most of what he sought in the agreement, he found himself under withering criticism from some in his liberal base who accused him of caving in to Republicans by not taxing the rich more. Just as Speaker John A. Boehner has been under pressure from his right, Mr. Obama faces a virtual Tea Party of the left that sees his compromise as capitulation.
The wave of grievance from liberal activists, labor leaders and economists suggested that the uneasy truce between Mr. Obama and his base that held through the campaign season had expired now that there was no longer a threat of a Mitt Romney victory. This is the second "hard news" article in the NYT in two days reporting on progressives attacking Obama for giving away too much. Not unlike after the 1st debate disaster, when Barry the sock puppet screws up on delivering the agenda he is savagely beaten.
Time to move on from this. This is long past old.
Obama is not liberal enough?
According to dailykooks and Dumocrapicundergound, the libtards felt they got screwed because the GOP did not give money due to Sandy relief. Well, we’ve always known liberals are insane morons..
So the NYT doesn’t think their totalitarian fruitcake is fruity enough? Boo-hoo.
Yup. Debate over sequestration kicked down the road only two months, coinciding with need to raise debt ceiling again. Dems think Obama gave up most of his leverage with this deal, leaving the Republicans with the advantage in that fight. Many think he should have held out for an agreement that covered those points as well, along with holding firm on the $250k level for tax increases.
“oh brother...this is all a coordinated effort between the White House and these leftist groups to try and make Obama look more centrist/reasonable. All of these liberal groups know darn well that Obama is trying to move to country further to the left as fast as possible.”
Bingo. You get the door prize.
Uh huh
what exactly did he give away?
cuz the GOP completely surrendered
Tea Party of the left, my ass. It’s the commie party of the left.
The people that work for the slimes do not deserve to live in this once great but now dying republic.
