After a long day of fiscal cliff chaos, the House will finally hold a vote tonight on the fiscal cliff bill passed by the Senate early Tuesday.
The decision to hold an up-down vote virtually guarantees passage of the bill, which would extend the Bush tax hikes for households earning under $450,000. that the bill will pass.
For most of the day, House Republicans have said that they could not support the bill without spending cuts, but by Tuesday night it was clear that GOP leaders could not come up with the votes to pass an amendment to add those cuts.
The House Rules Committee announced that there will be a vote on the unamended Senate bill in the 9 p.m. hour. Check out all of the days developments below.

Am glad that Issa voted NO on this crap sandwich..at least someone with integrity has come out of my state..Cantor voted no..Rubio voted no..props to them as we’ll..as far as Ryan goes..disappointed but not surprised..guess he rubbed elbows with Romney way too much
i wouldnt start coronating El Rey just yet. He knew he could vote know because it already had more than enough votes to pass. How would he have voted if his was the decisive vote? I’m not sure.
Tonight just shows he has better political sense than, or taht Ryan has already decided he’s not running for Preisdent so he doesn’t really care anymore.
I agree with the article and think our hand has been strengthened in the long run in getting these cuts permanent for a large part of the voting public and not subject to expiring at the stroke of midnight on a certain day....that fight is over. The debt ceiling is where we have the leverage if we show a backbone.
Obama has routed the republicans. He has a free reign for the next two years.
I’ve said it before I’ll say it again.
Red Team, Blue Team same team...
Exponential math is laughing at the GOP, Dims, and the American people. She has her debt club ready to use in an inappropriate way. Get ready cuz it’s coming....and it’s coming hard.
wish I kept a list of all the pro bammeys and anti Romniacs here...to compare how much they belly ache now with this debacle election....
third party my arse......its all BS......
Marco Rubio voted NO
Only one with sense
I read where Toomey voted for without reading it, because it wasn’t available. If true, double shame on him.
Futures haven’t even opened yet. Probably at 3 AM EST.
Likely gap up, but we’ll see how long the euphoria lasts. Highs can be made on “good” news.
God help Mick Mulvaney (my congressman) if HE voted yes.
LOL, thanks for the :) on this sad night.
Grover is more of a realist than he is made out to be, and that I thought 6 weeks ago.
When he admitted that plan B was NOT raising taxes he was admitting that taxes were going up automatically Jan 1 if nothing is signed into law.
Even Grover didnt want to raise taxes out of spite just because Rs could NOT stop some taxes from going up. He is against raising taxes.
On Jan 1 Obama’s $250K demand was a tax cut, DUHHHH!
House Rs should have extended some of them many weeks ago and moved on to the next fight.
I think Ryan proved that all of his impassioned rhetoric about lower taxes and lower spending....is total BS.
That's funny, right there!
I might suggest that people increase their deductibles.....starve the beast for as long as you can....
House Speaker John Boehner Office Phone Number: 202-225-6205
Call and leave a nasty voicemail. It won’t matter, but you’ll at least clue him in that his days are numbered.
“but I am shocked that my Tea Party candidates Senator Ron Johnson and Rep. Paul Ryan voted yea.”
Beware of establishment phonies who have infiltrated the Tea Party movement.
I never thought the same of Paul Ryan after watching him allow that idiot Biden ridicule and shame him during the debates and tell lie after lie.
We’ll be sending an interesting guy from Texas up in the next Congress. Our new Senator is Ted Cruz. During the primaries the Republican establishment fell behind a Rino and branded Cruz a Tea Party candidate. Instead of running away with from it, he embraced it - and won!
But I know how Washington works.
We’re sending up a new Senator with a spine and ‘attachments.’ We’ll see how long he can keep them in that cesspool.
I really hope it will be at least four years before I’m positing here:
“Cruz voted yes.”
“What a joke he turned out to be.”
