WASHINGTON (AP) A Democratic aide says the White House and congressional Republicans have reached an agreement to avert the so-called fiscal cliff.
The measure would extend Bush-era tax cuts for family incomes below $450,000 and briefly avert across-the-board spending cuts set to strike the Pentagon and domestic agencies this week.

“the RINOs will pay for it in the 2014 primaries.”
I doubt it. The RINO’s are there because of RINO voters who are probably ok with any old crappy deal.
People are getting distracted by this tax increase fakeout. That battle is over and dems WILL win because they have the votes. All is left is squabbling over the specific threshold. The real battle is on spending cuts and debt ceiling. That battle hasn’t even started yet. This is only card the pubs have and they should refuse any final deal unless there are significant spending cuts.

It’s actually over 200k and 450k. There’s also a marriage penalty which will destroy society.
Frankly, Congress critters might as well give him the keys to the blank check, writing Executive Order IOUs, running dictator like roughshod over generous banks opening the vaults for THE ONE, DAS EIN, EL UNO, the Zero Nihilo...
What is all the hand wringing about?
Fox News is a disgrace over this.
Obama wants a crisis... he wants a design of a fiscal cliff crisis to go on so that he can force banks to pay him and his goons what he wants for his own self without much ado as to looking where this is going to lead to...
Just like his father was a stupid drunk, he wants the stupid drunk driver legacy and go f himself.
Check it out... America is stupid and the GOP should stand up and dare him go to a civil war and bypass or jail congress... but they will not.... they desperately want him to take charge of this, it is obvious, but Zero is not so sure about himself either quite yet... so he goes on in his little drama queen bs a$$hole speeches, letting the teleprompter tell us instead...
It’s the teleprompter’s fault, you see... there, now we can be happy to all be losers equaly... this is so pathetic.
Obama wants O Boner to do something for him for free, but O Boner wants Zero to do the thing he loves Zero and the “president” to do, like a rankist GOPe idiot. So they all squirm at each other on their chairs.
None of them know what to do with America and they know it.
They are disgusting and have no leadership... and it is easy to blame the gun owners, the Tparty or Alqaeda in the meantime... arab springs etc... whatever. Robbers might make a buck out of milking the rest of that stupid b!tch Amerika feminized, for all it is worth, and then, bubye.
“we want you to be successful” (because me and my wife President Bush has no clue either apparently). So Obama and the Mexicans are like... WTF... I am the one, and we drive drunk is what we do, golfing and crying together with Oboner and other zeros in the Pentagon too scared and only to pretend fighting real wars.
It's all blablabla patchy stuff over a dam cracking fully open into chaos, mismanagement and no rudder for the escape boat to the sea.... Argentina style.
These people are complete incompetent and submitted to incompetence and the sins of the jealous sinner. Happy New Year, New York, Fox News etc... the Carnival of Rio must go on one more last time...
I think you are close. What is happening is, The media is carrying the White House narrative of the President who is the one rolling up his sleeves, "rushing back from vacation" etc. in order to "save the country from disaster" while the Republicans are getting the blame for stalemating talks for their "unreasonable" demands. So in turn, the Senate puts together a hodgepodge of a package and is seen as moving the ball "forward" so the complete onerous will fall on the House Republicans. No matter what they do, they will bear the brunt of the criticism of any of the Bill's shortcomings. I mean after all, they House Republicans are beholden to the Tea Party and the President only wants to "help the middle class." And you know, Boehner wants to also be seen as a "man of the people" and will agree with the new tax height threshold. Here I sit reading this mornings headline and sure enough, I see one that says, "Why The Republicans Lost the Fiscal Cliff Battle" like it is a Sunday night game to win or lose.
This whole mess has just amazed me. I mean, except for the simplest of the simple minded Obama voter knows having the "rich" pay a "little more" does almost zero to solve our budget problems. Even slowing the rate of growth of programs does little. But hey, the government wants to play games and keep kicking the can down the road? The day of reckoning will come someday.
You were married to President Bush and he was your *WIFE*??!?
The things I learn on Free Republic.
Yep. Boner & CantBoner have done the math, have enough Donk votes to allow some vulnerable Tea'rs to peel away and vote no.
You don’t know the half of it. Hospitals are planning for a 60% cut in Medicare payments. Sit down and multiply your annual salary by .60 and then divide by 12. Can you live on that?
Obamacare is designed to lead to single-payer.
Precisely.
They "were true to their principles" and thwarted their Speaker, and now will vote "Yes" on something even worse.
I thought "Plan B" was a stupid idea to begin with, and that blame goes to Boehner. He had Obama agreeing to a tax increase on those making over $500K, plus Obama had agreed to modest entitlement reform, and taking sequester out of the equation. That deal also had the $200 Billion giveaway to the 99er "unemployed", but so does this "deal."
Great, isn't it? Now, we still gut the military in 8 weeks, taxes go up, and there is zero entitlement reform. Oh, and the Democrats were able to get "tuition tax breaks" for "low income" Obama voters. I am still now sure what new welfare program this entails, but I am sure it is costly and forever.
Thanks Laz---I needed a laugh this morning. Happy New Year buddy.
Exactly. And later Bobo will overplay his hand on 2A after the Senate passes the Feinstein gun-grab, and then the Donks will scratch their head in amazement when the GOP gets the Senate back next year.

Right. So have the House make ONE amendment to this Senate bill; take the Senate bill -- as is - and attach all of the spending cuts and entitlement reforms which passed in December, from the first half of the Plan B bill.
"Here's your bill, Bobo, and here's how you're going to pay for it. Period. You want it, you sign it."
There are no Republican heroes anymore. Even the Tea Party Republicans are aiding the Democrats in gutting the military, because they rationalize that it is "at least some savings." Meanwhile, they do nothing about what is really causing out debt, deficit, and imminent collapse: Entitlements.
All Republicans are now "Democrat-Lite" in that respect. None of have any intestinal fortitude to stop the ATM Direct Deposit checks.
I am more convinced than ever that Satan knows exactly what he is doing regarding finance and the end times. Read the Book of Revelation. The world is enslaved primarily through financial means, and the world has given the Evil One the tools to do it.
There will be a "worldwide economic collapse" - but it won't be the lovely "re-set" that many here on FreeRepublic dream of.
In that latter scenario, some Freepers see themselves as the smarter survivors, who cached guns and gold and will come out the "winners." I don't believe it will come about that way. A new more insidious "system" will replace our current one (as bad as it is), and the preppers will have to get in line like everyone else.
The world will utterly panic when the collapse comes. Where will the men and women of courage be at that time? No where. Look what happened this week! The RINOs will be little Marxist and work with the Marxists for a "solution."
Then, we will turn over our sovereignty, our currency, and our hopes on a new world monetary system. That is going to happen, period.
From what I understand, only the Senate has reached a “deal”, there is still the “House” to contend with.
I hope the folks who actually control the purse strings, rejects the Senates plan which is designed to continue on the road to distruction of this country.
The “deal” shows only more spending and little REAL reductions/cuts. When they talk of cuts, it only means they won’t be spending as much as they had originally PLANNED to spend. It does not mean the will actually not spend more.

You can't have it both ways. If the "world panics" when "the collapse comes", nobody will be getting "in line" for anything...
“Most of the Drs I know make less than $300k taxable income because they shelter income.”
Most of the high income days for Dr’s are past. Things have changed. As a CPA with a lot of MD clients, I issued W-2’s to Dr’s in the 1980’s for in excess of $1 million per year. Health care was my specialty for years and I’ve worked in and planned for the transitions from the old cost reimbursement through diagnosis related group payments (factory medicine).
Thankfully I have now retired as the chaos in medical payments has destabilized the profession. On top of that, with the board certification program in effect since the 1980’s, older physicians who were grandfathered are now retiring due to age. The younger physicians who are required to take comprehensive boards every ten years are quitting the profession much younger rather than face them again.
I’ve spoken with many Dr’s who state that if the tax rates reach above 50% they will retire or work part time.
One of the biggest cuts will be in radiology. If the government creates a shortage of diagnostic testing in areas such as cancer, the disease will progress during the delay period to the point where treatment is futile.
So no deal was officially reached and no bills were signed into law last night? Disappointing.
