Exactly what I was thinking.”They found electronic parts and several chemicals that when mixed together could cause an explosion.” I think we can blame all of this on Hollywood, especially MacGyver! Didn’t all of us as young boys tinker with something to try and make it go boom? And the thing that triggered the episode is that he drew a picture of a glove with flames coming out? Oh My God! I bet the teacher never looks at the drawings of the Amish children. I remeber when we wanted a child to use their imagination, now we punish them for it.

I'd like to know what the chemicals were before passing judgment. In my wayward youth I tried many unsuccessful gunpowder making experiments and did build a successful cannon from 3/4” pipe that used match heads for a propellant. Indeed, I could have turned it into a pipe bomb just by capping both ends and using a fire cracker for a detonator. The gunpower experiments failed because I measured the ingredients by volume, not weight, and I used impure charcoal briquettes instead of the pure thing. I make this confession now because what I did was legal at the time and any statute of limitations has expired
