An on-air stunt involving an empty high-capacity gun magazine brandished by NBC "Meet the Press" host David Gregory last Sunday in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., school shootings has taken a bizarre twist. But it raises important issues about fairness and equality before the law.
After being called out by viewers, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the incident is "under investigation" because it's illegal to even have such a device in one's possession in the District of Columbia, where the show was taped. The law in question is crystal clear: "No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm." (Emphasis added) Offenses are punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
There doesn't seem much to investigate. Gregory himself admitted on national television, while he was interviewing Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the National Rifle Association, about gun control, that one of the magazines he displayed held 30 rounds. MPD spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump confirmed that NBC sought prior permission to use the empty magazine as a prop on the show, but the network's request was properly denied. And what part of "no person" exempts a talk show host from the District's ammo ban?

This is the stupidest thing - all he needs to say was it was a prop - let the feds prove otherwise.
Laws are for little people
“We’re democrats...our corruption doesn’t count”
A very illegal prop. Lock him up.
The dumb, arrogant ass could have broadcast that segment from Pennsylvania or Virginia, where they are legal, but DC people can’t see beyond the beltway.
I don’t believe ‘elite excuses’ trump the law. This is still a country based on ‘equal before the law’. Are you some nutty liberal elitist qwerty?
Everyone knows that employees of the major media are Super Citizens...
Why have laws if only the ‘little people” have to follow them? You’re coming across like a liberal elitist pig... you might want to rethink this Tupelo - or I missed your sarcasm and owe you an apology. You can’t be serious, right?
Let's look at that.
First, Article I, §8: "To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States".
Then, Amendment II: "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".
Now, this so-called "law" that David Gregory broke was not passed by Congress - you know, the Congress that has EXCLUSIVE power to legislate, IN ALL CASES WHATSOEVER?. And, this act of pretended legislation infringes on Mr. Gregory's right to bear arms, neh?
Any way you look at it, he should be in the clear.
Somebody imported that mag and was in illegal posession of it in D.C.before they illegally transferred it to Gregory. Unless of course, Gregory drove to Virginia and bought it himself.
Progressive mantra: Rules are for suckers
It was a great demonstration of why gun laws don’t work. They only disarm the honest who didn’t need disarmed in the first place.
Only illegal if you concede that unconstitutional laws are "legal". I say let him stay free and use it as a springboard to deter prosecution of others for "breaking" this illegal law.
You either believe in the 2nd Amendment or you don't - can't have it both ways and be anything resembling consistent with Constituitoonal beliefs...

How true - at least in the minds of the leftist ruling elite. The believe they are destined to guide the unwashed masses to a better world and they will do whatever they feel is necessary to assure that leadership.
See post 15 - if it doesn't change your mind, you can turn your guns in now to avoid the rush.
Congress passes every gun law? News to me. Some DC goofball got this passed -
DC High Capacity Ammunition Magazines D.C. Official Code 7-2506.01
(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
Gregory lives and works there. He even called the cops beforehand and they rejected his request. He broke the law. Lock him up.
David Gregory and the 4th Estate believe that they are a part of that ruling elite.
