It’s kind of like pain pill addicts. They never want to stop, and they never know the damage they’re doing to their bodies because they’re numbed to the pain. When they do actually seek help, the pain of withdrawal is physically felt and every bit as unimaginable as they could foresee.
When it’s all over, and they’re clean from the drugs, they have to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and bodies and try to move on.
I believe this is an apt metaphor for what is coming here in this country.
