Both 7.62 and 5.56mm NATO as well as .30 M-1 Carbine come on 10-round "Stripper clips". Insert one end of the clip into a receptacle in the rifle's action, then push down on the top cartridge to shove them all down into the magazine.

The empty clip is then removed and discarded or will be ejected when the bolt is run into battery.

We used to be able to get 7.62X39mm on 10-rd strippers too - for the SKS. I don't think they work on AKs, do they?
Never had much luck using them on the SKS, but those who know the trick can re load those fixed magazines with a clip pretty quickly.
