On the ground Downtown 1700 hours.
thanks for the well wishes......I’m watching the local channel and they were showing one of them live a little bit ago - all you could see were transformers blowing.....I’ve closed all doors and blinds and will move into the center hallway if they say we need to.....they’re now saying another tornado has touched down but not sure how close to me at this point.....
Mobile or Eastern Shore?
As Admiral Farragut said at the Battle of Mobile Bay: “Damn the tornadoes, full speed ahead!!
Just talked to a friend in Mobile in a high rise complex. They’ve all been called to the ground floor. She’s just north of downtown...says it’s coming right up the river.
If it’s near you’ll know unless it’s very fast moving. The sound is hard to describe, but freight train is as close as you’ll get. Your ears will probably pop from the pressure change, sort of like descending in a plane or going up a mointain in a car. Since you’ve got time to prepare, you might want to drag a mattress into that interior hallway and pull it over yourself if it actually does hit.
Just what I was thinking
The only real solution is to ban all guns! </s>
Thinking of you.
Lord jesus, spare these folks from harm.
Take cover BamaDi and stay safe!
wow. Still fairly rare to hit downtowns though
Didn’t a tornado just come through the city a few days ago ? Hopefully everyone down there is still on a heightened state of alert. Stay safe !
One was on the ground just West of DeFuniak Springs, FL. headed North. That is a rural area so maybe not too much damage.
Thanks. I was on my way to the movies in west Mobile at that time. The movie was sold out. So...I'm back home now in sw Mobile county.
That is just because in tornado country 99% of the land is rural or sparsley populated. The myth is that urban areas have a weather effect that prevents tornadoes.
Have been listening to scanner (radioreference) . Sounds intense. Will be difficult to asses until daybreak...
saw a video posted on Facebook. That must have been scary
assess!
I’m sitting here fat dumb and happy in west Mobile. I didn’t even know tornados were hitting all around me till I looked at this thread. I’m not completely clueless, it just appeared the last time I looked at the radar it was going north of here. Police scanner traffic is surprisingly quiet. Last Thursday when a tornado hit all the police and fire were talking 90 miles an hour.
