“Gun-free” schools and malls basically tell the criminal “Don’t worry about getting shot here, as you’ll be the only one with a gun”. But uniformed, open-carry personnel are not the answer either, as they might be ambushed and overpowered and have their weapon taken for criminal use.
A better solution is to allow concealed carry for certain trained and responsible adults in the schools and shops. Criminals aren’t going to feel safe if they don’t know who might shoot back.
