ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- Authorities say U.S. Sen. Michael Crapo has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence in a Washington, D.C. suburb.
Police in Alexandria, Va., said Sunday that the Idaho Republican was pulled over early Sunday morning after his vehicle ran a red light. Police spokesman Jody Donaldson said Crapo failed field sobriety tests and was arrested at about 12:45 a.m. without incident. He was transported to the Alexandria jail and released on an unsecured $1,000 bond at about 5 a.m..
Donaldson said he didn't immediately know what Crapo's blood alcohol level was.
Crapo has a Jan. 4 court date.
A Crapo spokesman couldn't be immediately reached for comment Sunday night.
Crapo has been in the Senate since 1998, and served for six years in the House before that.
He is a Republican so he will be hounded out of the Senate.
A DemocRAT would have told the cop that he was on the way to the Hill to vote on a bill and then signed himself into a designer “rehab” joint for 30 minutes or so and this whole thing would have been forgotten. Republicans can’t get away with that though.
Has Teddy “No Pants” Kennedy ever got arreste for a DUI?
Biggest news out of Idaho since the toe tapping incident with Larry Craig.
Of course, the media will blow this up into a huge deal because it is a Republican. Just like they did with Craig.
Why would anyone want to emulate a Kennedy?
How can anyone with a name like that be anything other then a DimoCRAP??
Guess ‘we’ will be getting a new Senator.
The Dems will be all over it and the Pubbies will back them up.
Thought they were given ‘leave’ to go HOME for the holidays.
That is right, the only time they actually go HOME is to get reelected.
Nice work if you can get it.
‘They’ are getting better though, it took over 25 words to get to the fact he was an “R” ... usually that is part of the huge print, bold banner.
At least Crapo didn’t take a life, then fake a neck injury like Kennedy.
Cop’s wives, their kids, judges, and Democrat politicians get rides
home.
At one point in time, I woul dhave cared that a republican senator just ruined his career, but have to say I don’t.
Bye!
what an idiot, drunk driving. what, couldnt call the limo? you gotta drive drunk? fool.
Crapo? How appropriate for a politician! (Gee, it only costs $10 to file a name change)

Or manslaughter?
Still, there's jim moran ~ a local congresscritter ~ i gather he walks and takes cabs.
What a fool.
People’s Republic of Alexandria. It’s amazing the petty stuff they pull over and ticket people for - “running a red light” to them entails having any portion of the car in the intersection when the light turns red, and the lights are timed to cycle very quickly through yellow to allow them to bust people. Its entirely possible there to have the front wheels crossing into the intersection when the light goes green to yellow, and not being completely out of the intersection when it goes yellow to red.
I won’t condone drunk driving, but it’ll definitely be interesting to see what his BAC was.
On a side note, had this been Jim Moran the cops would’ve just provided an impromptu escort to Murphys, or his home, depending on which direction he happened to be going in (being after midnight my bet would be on Murphys)
This is interesting because he is a Mormon. Of course a Mormon can get drunk, even though they’re not supposed to, but practicing Mormons rarely become alcoholics, because they’re big believers in religious supervision, which would likely spot an alcohol problem.
So there might be more to this. DUI is assumed to be alcohol, but also applies to both illegal and pharmaceutical drugs. At least two members of the Kennedy family have had driving problems, “sleep driving”, while taking the sleep aid Ambien.
Bottom line, there may be more to this than meets the eye.
He pronounces it CRAY-po.
Kind of like a “crop-py” fish, only different.
But they are both trying hard to avoid that crappy inference—lol.
Sounds like a set-up. They did the same to a legislator from New Jersey and now a cop is facing criminal charges for it.
