To the question "Can you use a check ordering from Pizza Hut online?" We have this answer:
You can only used a credit card or a Pizza Hut gift card to purchase online, no checks accepted.
And, driving up to their window in South Central Texas, the same sign is posted. No checks accepted as of January 1.
Wonder how many other establishments are going to do the same? I thought the economy was recovering....
More on ERMA.

In the early 1950s banking was faced with a paper-handing crisis. Banks were unable to keep on top of the rising number of checks and were unable to retain bookkeeping staff. Bank of America, then the largest bank in the world turned to Stanford Research Institute to develop an automated bookkeeping and proofing system. SRI and BofA worked together to create ERMA (electronic recording machine - accounting) and to develop the MICR (magnetic ink character recognition) check coding system.
I don’t own a CC either.
Our church and our daughters dance studio and for some reason our local municipalities utilities are the only places we write checks anymore...
I was being sarcastic about the pew swipers..do they actually have those?
Well, a pastor of a Baptist church that I visited for a few weeks while in Maryland on business mentioned in one sermon that he kept on getting advertisements for, if not a pew swiper, then a mobile one. And of course he held the idea in contempt because no matter how much extra it would make it easy to raise (and it might even be for innocent reasons — sometimes people just forget to bring an offering) he believes the method is wrong. If it took debit cards only that might be another story, but there could be a lot of confusion with people trying to give it credit cards anyhow.
