He wanted to be president less than anyone Tagg has met in his life? Hard to believe. Some exaggeration maybe?
I suspect Mitt Romney had moments where he didn't want the White House as much as his wife and son wanted it for him -- and he never wanted it as much as Obama does -- but saying that he never really wanted it may be going too far.
Maybe it's the rich guy problem of having so much and being able to get so much with ease that you don't have real hunger for anything: you never really want it as much as the people who don't have anything else to aim for.
His running for the job was a sham then.
His running for the job was a sham then.
Why anyone beside those that have the msm in their back pocket, would want to be president is beyond me anyway. Just let someone step up and the attack dogs are ready to rip them to shreads, including one’s own party...
If he didn't want the job, why the scorched earth primary? I wasn't thrilled with the prospect of Newt, but if he had the fire in the belly for the job, step aside Mittens and let him get the nomination.
The answer to this is quite obvious and likely involves misinterpretations. Of course romney wanted to be president. As others said no one subjects themselves to that process for the heck of it. However Romney probably said the presidency is a hard job and he isn’t looking forward to it or something.
The true libertarian (small "L") is a lover of freedom and not inclined towards politics or government which is one reason why the Left seems politically to always have the upper hand - they are the party of government and politics.
The true Right wants to be in politics and government to work themselves (and others) out of their governmental jobs. But who wants to work themselves out of their job? Not many, which is why the Reagans of this world are so few and far between. We certainly need one now more than ever.
The opposite, of course, is true with the Socialist Bureaucracy, which lives (taxes and spends) for the perpetuation and growth of its own existence and to #%$^&*!! with those from whom they commit legalized larceny in order to perpetuate their existence and growth. That's why tyranny is tends to be short lived - it dries up and kills the source of their funding,
I was at two of his rallies here in Virginia and the level of energy I saw told me he absolutely wanted it. I`m not buying this at all.
To be sure, there`s much to criticize about his campaign, but the desire to win wasn`t lacking.
IMHO, Mitt is content to be with his family. Now what the heck is wrong with that.
FR has soooo changed. You knock just about every Repub that ever even thought of running. The Dems must love it.
Mitt said himself if Jeb Bush had run, he wouldn’t have. Mitt just wanted to make sure no conservative got to be president. So he worked hard to knock conservatives out in the primary. But in the general election, it wasn’t that big a deal to him whether he or Obama won. There wouldn’t have been much difference in how they governed for the next 4 years.
I want to know
WHY the GOP ran their B tier candidates in this race with so much on the line.
What a load of crap. He spent the last 20 years jockeying for the position and the opportunity, and through his minions, he spent millions trying to clear away the alternatives.
Looks like Tagg isn’t any more forthright than his dad—perhaps he, too, will go into politics.
As is usual for Mitt, and now we see from his sons, just another LIE!
All I can say is HOLY SH**!
This is the best the “conservative” party of the US can do??
The deeper truthful part to the claim by Romney’s son may be just how deeply Romney WAS pressured to be “the chosen” by the GOP elite.
That is the only thing that makes sense out of Tagg’s comment that:
“He had no desire to . . . run, said Tagg, who worked with his mother, Ann, to persuade his father to seek the presidency. If he could have found someone else to take his place . . . he would have been ecstatic to step aside.”;
when there were a number of Conservatives competing against him in the primaries, just none representing, none hand-picked by, the GOP elite; except possibly Mitt.
The Atlantic? Uh-uh.
He wanted it. In fact, I believe mItt thought he HAD it.
So did I. I still can’t believe more people voted for Obama.
