I am dumbfounded by those that think having a police officer in a school to protect the school children is a bad idea. I bet just like this school district there are lots of schools already doing this.

I'm not comfortable with it because it's getting too close to a police state. Children will become acclimated to having cops around 100% of the time. Then how long till pat-downs, invasive searches, etc, in the name of "security"? In time, the kids will grow up thinking this is normal. Think of the long term impact.

And if it works for kids, why not adults? Why not at factories, construction sites, malls, offices? We already do so for government buildings and airports, why not extend it to the private workplace as well?

And of course, the final argument will be, that since there are now police everywhere, why should any private citizen subject own a gun?

Think long term about what this will mean.
