In all of the grocery stores around here, Central California Coast, more of the clerks and such speak Spanish than speak English. All of the signs, labels, prices, ads are in Spanish. If you want to work at the local welfare office you have to be bilingual. Don’t see the problem for them although I have a few.

Really; if they’re in rural areas they aren’t in “food deserts”. They might create their own “neglecting anchor babies” deserts, but that’s about it. I was under the impression that urban Hispanics were in much worse shape (pardon the pun) than their rural counterparts; those little porkers LOVE fast food (then go home and eat meals to sustain farmhands before they ooze onto the couch and watch TV).
