What is it with L.A. (Lower Alabama) and Jihad?
Terror Trends Bulletin ^ | 21 Dec 12 | Unattributed

please find two seemingly unrelated stories about two separate Jihadis from the Mobile, Alabama area (one of our favorite cities actually and the permanent homeport for the battleship USS Alabama, one of the great historical treasures that every American should visit at least once).

Nevertheless, something is going on in that area. There are two known Jihadis that made news recently, one we have known about for some time and the other only more recently came on the scene.

The first one is Omar Hammami, a Muslim who grew up in Daphne, Alabama, a really nice town outside of Mobile. Hammami’s Dad is a Syrian immigrant and was at one time at least the Imam of the Islamic center there. While a student at the University of South Alabama, Hammami was the President of the Muslim Students Association, which of course is the oldest Muslim Brotherhood front group in the United States. (Hammami is certainly not the first member of the MSA to turn to violent Jihad. That list is long.) As President of the MSA at South Alabama, he was interviewed by local TV news stations about perceived discrimination against Muslims in the wake of the 9/11 attacks of 2001.

Not long after all of that, Hammami turned to violent Jihad and via Canada and Egypt found his way to Somalia, where he came a member of Al Shabaab, the Al Qaeda affiliate there. It was at that time that he hit the big-time in Jihadi circles and changed his name to Abu Mansoor Al-Amriki. He became a spokesman for the organization and found himself on the FBI’s list of most wanted terrorists.

I’m down here and familiar with the press on this case.

Imagine Barney Fife and Otis becoming jihadists and you pretty much get this one.

We call them “The Yee-Haw Jihads”.

Hammami is a different animal.

Cheap land, mostly.

Once they have a parcel of land, for a mosque, Muslims can build everything else they need around it.

When I was attending Southern Miss around 1989, a professor asked me to visit all the computer labs on campus and get a bit of information.

I think there were 10 of them at the time. After the first 3 or 4, I got to noticing something odd. Every single one had a Pakistani student running them. I will say none of them seemed hostile or in any way threatening.

I finally asked one of them if they had a tunnel. He laughed and knew what I was joking about. This was well before 9-11 so I wasn’t thinking about any possible terror connections.

We live in West Mobile. The wives drive luxury cars in their headgear. Their children have assimilated or infiltrated into nice schools. I am terrified when I am stuck in grocery store with their “packs”, they seem to shop in groups. Then the college age kids with out of state plates in nice cars.. Seems huge funding and college connection. Probably USA instead of Springhill

Ha ha. I know where all exit doors are located. I can’t pack right now with active, curious and independent 3 year old. Seriously, there is an alarming rate of growth in their “community”.

As a life long MA resident this really surprises me.

I always considered the South as safe from this stuff.

I guess no place is safe anymore.

That's one of the most conservative counties in the country.

They have ZERO Democrats in the county government...the whole state just voted out the last Democrat in elective state office. The county voted 68% for George Bush.

You won’t see a lot of Dow’s, Greenough’s or Mim’s on the graduation list of EE’s, at USA.

You will however find many names having a moslem ring.

Hamammi was innudated from jump with his parents and such.

The most recent two knuckleheads were converts. Richard’s last name is really “Weaver”. Significantly well known family of half wits in the Wilmer area....
