Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is criticizing the National Rifle Association's call for armed police and security volunteers to be posted at schools.
He said the group's proposal "is not a plan, but a ploy to bring more guns into our neighborhoods."
Menino reacted in a statement Friday after the NRA commented on last week's shooting at a Connecticut elementary school that killed 26 children and staff. The nation's largest gun-rights lobby blamed video games, movies and music videos, saying they expose children to a violent culture day in and day out.
The mayor said Americans are tired of the same buzzwords and rhetoric that have moved the gun control debate nowhere.
Menino and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg lead a coalition of mayors pushing to end gun violence.
***Just admit that you prefer dead children to a rational attempt to protect them, a$$hole. ****

“If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an out right ban, picking up every one of them... Mr. and Mrs. America, turn em all in, I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes werent here.-Dianne Feinstein, Senator, CBS-TVs 60 Minutes, February 5, 1995”
I think that the “51 votes” are NOW THERE for exactly such a ban, if that’s what Obama ordered from above.
Also important to remember that as of the new year, the filibuster rule will be changed from 60 votes (for cloture) to [probably] 51 votes (Harry Reid stated his intent to do this before Sandy Hook). Again, “the votes will be there”, at least in the Senate.
The House is all that remains in the way.
Think that’s will be enough?
Well, enough for two more years, but that may be all.
From the looks of things as they’re going now, the Republicans are going to come away from the 2013 tax/budget/deficit fight so damaged, that there’s a very good chance they’ll lose their majority in the House in 2014.
If that happens, and Obama gains both Houses once more, expect extreme gun control to pass in the 2015-2016 session...
I’m not happy about this.
But that’s a possibility I see comin’ down the road...
Those two men have NOT pushed for an end to gun violence, they've pushed for gun control. Those are two very different objectives...
I’m sick of these east coast mayors thinking that they’re somehow important to anyone outside their cities.
How did that Chick-Fil-a thing work out for you Man-in Name-Only?
>>When my son began his base pay was barely 20,000 annual. He is up a little bit. He has his part time jobs as security and his wife works. He was in a school -all day all week for about a year; they moved into another area recently.
Where I live, starting pay for a cop is about 1 1/2 times that, and then add the cost of benefits and pension. But if you put a cop in every school, it would go to seniority and you’d have $50k/yr cops standing around chatting with the school secretary all day. We hire security guards to protect our power plants because they are considerably cheaper than a LEO.
Another reason to use armed security guards and not LEOs is to stop this from turning into another case of “only cops should be trusted with guns around children”. Even off-duty cops cost a lot more than armed security guards.
The abstract comments of ‘gun control’ offer not one syllable of ‘action’ that will make anyone safer. Unfortunately, our society breeds evil. As others have noted, we have laws that covered each of the elements that occurred in Sandy Hook. Minor with a gun, guns unsecured, guns available to an unstable person, etc, etc, etc.
Politicians I lump in with the ‘unstable’ because most of them have as much intelligence as a cup of sand. If they would speak of specific action plans then we would have a dialog. As it is they speak in generalities that don’t make sense.
And there are something like 125,000 schools in this country. There are at least 6 or 8 of them within 10 miles of me in 3 different districts.
Well, put armed guards in every US school except Boston’s schools.
>>There are at least 6 or 8 of them within 10 miles of me in 3 different districts.
Same here. That’s why we can’t afford a fully certified LEO in each one all day.
Menino would have sold out Paul Revere...shame most Americans will never hear this buffoon on a news broadcast; he makes no sense whatsoever. I’m stunned even ‘low info voters’ like Bostonians would elect this clown Mayor...it boggles the mind.
We need to be careful to not limit ourselves to only fighting the last battle. What if Islamic terrorists were the shooters, who imported weapons. Gun control would not work in that situation, but concealed carry an armed guards would.
The best thing for conservatives to do is show up at school board meetings in force and start making suggestions and demands. Volunteers, low paid part timers whatever but we’ve got to take this issue away from the feds.
Its kinda funny if you think about it but aside from the occasional gang related shooting at a Detroit school they don’t have these mass shootings for a reason. Anybody who tied a mass shooting in a Detroit school would be taken out by a half dozen gang bangers who happen to be packin. LOL
The mascot of the Democrat party is no longer a donkey.
The mosacot of the Democrat party is a dead baby.
The party that feeds its agenda with the flesh of dead, innocent murdered children.
And in more ways than one.
These people need to be made to leave this country.
When you are taking flak, you are over the target.
This clown makes Jesse Jackson appear articulate.
I agree. Keep the feds away from this and handle it locally. If the feds get involved, we’ll wind up with 200,000 jack-booted thugs working for the Dept of Education by the beginning of the next school year.
One of the necessary things to do in the near future is remove all the traitors and communists from Boston and repopulate the city with patriots.
