A former U.S. Marine is expected to be released from a prison in Matamoros on Friday.
Jon Hammar has been held at CEDES prison since August, when he crossed bridge with a hunting rifle.
He was taken into custody and charged with carrying an illegal weapon.
According to his family, Hammar was told that he could bring the gun into Mexico if it was registered for and a fee was paid.
His defense lawyer said it was determined that there was no intent to commit a crime in this case.
Over the past five months, U.S. Senator Bill Nelson has been working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the State Department and Mexican authorities to get the 27-year-old out of prison.
During his time in prison, Hammars family has been faced with death threats from other inmates.
U.S. Consolate officials are standing by to escort the former Marine safely back into the United States once he is released.

I have to believe that if it wasn’t for Graeta on Fox he’d still be chained that bed.
This is the first I have heard of the senator's involvement.
This is not over until he steps onto American soil.
My old uncle with the heart valve problem still comes to attention if I play the opening bars of the Marine Hymn.

Thank You Senator Nelson.
Barrack Obama—State Department-—KMA.
“never heard of a formar Marine”
You got that right!
Merry Christmas!

John Murtha or Lee Harvey Oswald would qualify
He should have went on a hunger strike. That would have called the Mexicans bluff.

I surely do hope this is true.
His parents have been through so much agony.
Looking forward to seeing a blessed reunion.
Yeah, no thanks to the turd in the white house.
But you know damn well they will jump in front of the cameras to take credit once he is back on American soil.
They must have bribed the right judge.
Two encouraging things about this episode. The first is that he is coming home of course, but also the photo of him chained to a bed was sent to Hammar’s mother from someone in Mexico that is trying to help Jon. Hopefully the person that took the photo and sent it anonymously via a yahoo.mx email account is in a position to watch over Jon and see that he doesn’t get hurt. I am encouraged that even though the Mexican courts are corrupt one of it’s citizens has had the courage to help.
Once a Marine always a Marine.
“I have to believe that if it wasnt for Graeta on Fox hed still be chained that bed.”
It is too late in the evening for me to watch Greta, but I have to give many thanks to BOR on The Five yesterday evening.
He was wonderful.
He cut what’s-his-name to pieces in just a few sharp slices. I loved it.
