Although he once said banning so-called assault weapons fell under the category of issues best left to the states, Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown told The Republican / MassLive.com in an exclusive interview Wednesday that he now supports federal action.
Brown cited the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting that killed 26 people, including 20 children, as the turning point in his stance on the issue.
"What happened in Newtown where those children were subject to that level of violence is beyond my comprehension. As a state legislator in Massachusetts I supported an assault weapons ban thinking other states would follow suit. But unfortunately, they have not and innocent people are being killed," Brown said. "As a result, I support a federal assault weapons ban, perhaps like the legislation we have in Massachusetts."
Earlier in the day, Democratic U.S. Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren, who defeated Brown in November's election, reiterated her support of a federal ban as well as increased measures to strengthen the background check process.

This is why you lost, punk.
Thus demonstrating precisely why he was unsuitable - and lost his bid - for re-election.
I’m still glad that he took Ted’s seat, and glad that I helped him accomplish it, my happiness is related to something very specific that I had wanted since the 1960s and is not much affected by how weak the guy turned out to be.
Ted’s seat was taken by a republican, all of us old enough to have learned to totally despise Ted Kennedy and what he did to this once great nation, will always get a kick out of that.
The people who should feel ashamed are those who were calling for Brown for president, for a couple of weeks after he was elected, those were some truly misguided people.
What other choice did you have? At least he was a Republican in a seat held by a democrat for what, 50 years?
Thanks
these people seem to speak without checking their sources. An assault weapon is one that can fire automatically, that is, one pull of the trigger can expel all the bullets in the magazine. An assult like weapon is one that can’t do that, but RESEMBLES one that can...it looks real mean, but it is the avarage semi-automatic weapon. If you pull the trigger once, one bullet will come out. Remember Gene Autry and Roy Rogers??? They shot six shooters which meant that if they pulled the trigger six times, six bullets would be fired (it always seemed to me that they must have been carrying 100 shot magazines because the gunfights went on forever!!!!) that having been said, only law abiding people obey laws, therefore more laws will be worthless.....don’t we ever wake up????
Sorry I sent you any money - I won't make that mistake twice...
