Except this time no one is proposing a change to the electoral college, just how individual states choose their electors.

What one is likely to gain in a blue state would be offset by losses in red states. Within the last ten years states including California were discussing forming a compact to adopt a process whereby states would agree to direct their electors to vote for the candidate winning the popular vote.

Our current system at least gives smaller states a shot at having some influence on the presidential election.
