Absolutely correct. However, this kid wasn't a schizophrenic...he was autistic, another devastating brain disease that can cause breathtaking abnormalities in thinking and behavior.
You probably don’t have any trouble believing that a person could have bone cancer. Or stomach ulcers. Or asthma. Or heart disease, diabetes, hyothyroidism, bunions, osteoarthritis, multiple sclerosis, or psoriasis. Do you believe someone might legitimately have Down’s Syndrome? Or Parkinson’s?
Why is it easy to believe that something might be wrong with one’s liver or kidneys, but not believe that the most incomprehensibly complex and delicate organ in the body, the brain, might malfunction?
Mental illness exists, just as heart, liver, pancreatic, and uterine disease does. To think the brain is somehow immune from flaws in its development and function, and that all bad behavior is the result of some scam on the part of psychiatrists, is not logical.
Okie,, but there is an association between aspergers and schizo, I dont wasn’t either of them armed.
A devastating brain disease that can cause breathtaking abnormalities,,, yeah, no gun for them.
My Aspie, came home from school yesterday and watched the news with me. He could not understand how someone could kill innocent children. even more, he couldn’t understand how someone could kill their parents. This kid doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body.
I have serious doubts about Aspergers Syndrome. I think its a way to slap a label on those who are socially awkward or those who are smart and think differently.
My son would never think of hurting someone, even when he’s frustrated. This kid yesterday had a lot more going on.
And while his mother had every right to keep guns, she had a responsibility to keep them away from her son if he issues.
you sir or lady are complete idiot.
My son has Aspergers. Sweetest kid in the world.
Maybe you’d like to spend a week in my home and clinically diagnose him yourself? You know, cause you know EVERYTHING about it considering you don’t have any kids suffering from (it).
I have asperger's syndrome. That is absolutely NO excuse for what he did. He should have had a more black and white understanding of right and wrong that NT (neurotypical) people.
I remember hearing that Asperger's, schizpphrenia, and bipolar disorder were all on the same gene sequence.
WADR, I seriously doubt that.
My husband would probably qualify as an aspie, as well as his father. School slapped that label on my son.
They’re all doing just fine. My husband is a smart, caring, father and my son is turning into an intelligent, articulate, charming young man.
In the 1960’s it was be unique, find ourself, do you own thing. Now its, wow, he marches to his own drummer. He must have Aspergers.
“I’d want to see him fry”
A crime requires two things. An act and a criminal state of mind, `mens rea’ or criminal intent.
People like this kid, who are found guilty, but insane, are still imprisoned but in a facility where they can be treated.
The mother knew her son wasn’t well but allowed him access to firearms, and she’s paid for her poor decision.
No one here needs to be advised to secure their guns. Outraged libs `talk the talk’, while we here walk it as we usually do.
I had to take a psych eval to join the Sub service.
What are SSRIs?
Celexa; Lexapro; Luvox; Paxil; Prozac; Zoloft. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors
the infamous SSRIs
common antidepressant
They often have side effects worse than the initial problem. (for some people)
Asperger’s isn’t associated with violence. However, I’ve seen unbelievable cruelty toward kids with Asperger’s by teachers and students alike. I wonder if this guy wasn’t treated that way as a child at the school.
I have seen both. Have multi-generation family experience with a disorder that looks like Asperger’s. It is real, it is a physical ailment, it is hereditary.
I am sure the “experts” do not fully understand it. But many act like they do.
My nephew was diagnosed with a more severe condition of Aspbergers. He was very obsessed with guns. My brother-in-law (though a democrat, still believed in the 2nd Amendment—go figure), had to remove all the guns from his house after his son threatened to kill the family. He was institutionalized eventually, but I think this mental health issue does need to be examined. Not sure what to say about it, but...gun control is NOT the answer.
Theyre all doing just fine. My husband is a smart, caring, father and my son is turning into an intelligent, articulate, charming young man.
This. Aspergers by itself is not typified by this type of behavior. Aspergers syndrome combined with poor environment and nurturing with psychotropic drugs and exposure to an ugly world without comprehension and love (I would say God) = problems.
I have known many people who have Aspergers that function quiet well and don’t have anymore quirks than I do.
